It teaches 'how' to think instead of 'what' to think like the UK systems do. I've bought the other books at this grade level, including 'mental maths' and my daughter has become lightening fast with her calculations, far beyond her peers. Her confidence is through the roof and maths is now her favourite subject! She is still very creative, but is much more balanced now. We'll be continuing with this method until the very last book. My only disappointment with this series is that it doesn't start with reception age material.
