Refrigerant Charging and Service Procedures for Air Conditioning

I am a HVAC/R mechanic with 18 years experience. I read through the book in a couple of days just to verify the accuracy of the info and I can attest that the info is accurate and well written. The reason I bought this book was not to learn the concepts presented in it, as I learned all this info in trade school many years ago. I bought this for my 1st year apprentice to study so she would feel more confident on the job site when trying to understand the numbers she’s seeing when gauged up to a malfunctioning AC unit. This book is not a replacement for apprenticeship and training, but it’s a great book for understanding problems that can be encountered in the field with equipment. Thanks Craig.

Though I have only read 18 pages so far, I highly recommend this book, the author is obviously a very thorough and skilled teacher and has produced a smooth and polished presentation. The flow and understandability makes reading it a pleasure - a very logical and systematic coverage makes it pleasing to absorb. The book isn't too wordy and enough is written with coverage from different angles to get a proper understanding, with graphics throughout that brilliantly display the subjects. An item or word is sometimes mentioned in passing while explaining something else (like 'piston' when introducing a 'metering device') yet the author sticks to the topic at hand so as not to diverge and muddle the subject. Reliably, however, the item is explained at a later, suitable place, though a small page reference pointing to it I think would have been helpful, as well as perhaps an index or glossary at the end.

Love this book. I’m in HVAC School and this is really clear and is helping me so much with everything we are doing in class tremendously. Pics and descriptions are clear. There’s a bit of a catch 22 I’m learning as people in the field don’t actually do these “best practices,” and if you’re boss has been doing it 30 years and does stuff wrong, you can’t tell them they are wrong. My friends in the field seem to think class and books like this are pointless, which has me scratching my head. On a different note, there is nothing electrical here. I think it would be amazing if he came out with an HVAC electrical diagnostic equivalent because all the electrical books out there are just as bad as all the HVAC tech books that are 5000 pages and written in technical jargon. I have one electrical PDF book that got great reviews, but it’s 1000 pages and is getting way too much into the physics of it all... come on. I just got my electrical certification and I want to know how to repair an AC system, not master PHD electronics. The straight approach is great in this book. I think he could do something similar in electrical. I’d be the first to buy it. And great utube videos as well, which is of course presumably how his audience knows about this book. The videos are a good overview, the book solidifying the details. You can do the same with the electrical side Craig! :D Damn finding low voltage shorts and jumpers etc still confuse me.

El índice se ve muy prometedor.... por eso lo compré. También he visto sus videos en YouTube y explica muy bien. La calidad de las hojas es muy buena, se ve que resisten a las salpicaduras de agua.

This is a great book. I am new to HVAC but as I am reading and learning I feel as if I have been doing HVAC a lot longer. The teachings is simple and not a lot of technical jargon. Simple to the point. I have not even gotten through halfway of the book but have learned so much. What is even better is that there is a YouTube that they have that helps make the learning more effective. I just received a email from them telling me that they have a second edition on the new refrigerants which I will be purchasing as soon as I complete the first one.
