This translates to me having to sleep very very carefully indeed. I had hoped this could help by helping to hold my neck in the correct position while I slept. Unfortunately, I found two problems. First, even as I got more used to it I still found it uncomfortable enough that I could never sleep long with it on -- though that may be the same for any neck support. Second, I need support all around (especially the back,) but it's basically design to only truly support the front with just a bit of support on the sides.I feel like this is really only truly good for when you're actually sitting up straight in a chair, not for anything else such as sleeping. We asked about a soft collar, and he Said “you can try it”. This collar actually worked very well for him. He was able to go without his hard collar, utilizing this one, for periods of time. It’s not a replacement, but one that he can use when he’s at home and quiet.There is, however, a drawback. This collar has a very rough surface, and it is irritating to his skin. That is being dealt with by enclosing it in a soft material.
