I ordered this Primary Ruled Journal for my son, as it was recommended by his class teacher, and I think it’s a really great choice. This notebook is perfect for young learners who are just starting to write. The primary ruled lines make it easier for kids to practice writing neatly, stay within the lines, and develop good handwriting habits from the beginning. It also encourages them to be more creative with their writing while keeping their work organized. I believe this journal will really help children learn how to write in a neat, structured, and confident way. The quality of the book is very good, it feels durable and well-made. I ordered a couple of them so that my son has enough to use throughout the school year, and I’m sure they will last long. Overall, this is a very useful book for early learners, and I’m very happy with the purchase. I would recommend it to other parents whose kids are starting their writing journey.

These are fantastic and affordable. I like that the colored lines are faint, so they don't overpower the student's handwriting. I find the spacing just right, with 12 lines per page. Each line is 1/2" high (from the bottom red line to the top blue line), and the dotted line is precisely in the middle. They have a Zaner-Bloser style printed alphabet on the back of the front cover. I wish they had a cursive alphabet too. My main complaint is that the front of the books say "Grades K-2". I'm using them with older students, so I created full page covers for each book to hide the lower grade labels.

I got this for my son who is in Pre-K, and it’s perfect for his early writing practice. The wide lines and dotted midline make it so much easier for him to learn his letters. The book is sturdy, with plenty of pages, and the cover holds up well in his backpack. Best of all, it was very affordable, especially after the discount. Great value and highly recommended for little learners!

Bought this for my son and I love the writing space it offers. The front has the ABC’s and tips to maximize writing skills for beginners. Overall good value.

Mead's books and other products are usually strong/durable for use by kids and adults. That is the main reason I purchased this instead of the typical exercise books that are smaller and cheaper but easier to get damaged. So that's not an issue here. I'm including below information I wanted to know BEFORE I purchased: 1. This is the same product as Mead Primary Composition Book, Grades K-2, 100 Wide-Ruled Sheets, 9.5 x 7.5 Inch Sheet Size, Pack of 5 (72900) ...it is just listed as one book here and a set of 5 books (comes in a small tight box) in the other listing. 2. It is not actually like this picture - i.e. it is not black with white with blue designs; the picture of the back of the item is a closer representation of the coloring. What I received from Amazon (seller) is the exact blue colored unit from the picture used for the Pack of 5 (72900) (By the way, that 72900 item number does not exist on the Mead website; what you get is 5 units of 09902). My daughter is 7 years and did not want this black version with the Blue Palm Mascot as she said that was "childish and the children would laugh at me in school"...she requested the blue book and I bought one of these to compare. 3. IT DOES NOT HAVE VERTICAL MARGINS!! This is the main reason why I gave it (and will be giving the Pack of 5) 4 Stars instead of 5. At K-2 age and beyond, children need the guide of at least the left vertical margin to line up their work and write question numbers, etc. It means that I have to go now and draw 3,000 lines (200 pages x 15 books) before school starts in September. JOY...I'm typing this and thinking 3 stars. Sigh. 4. The lines are "narrow" as they are actually 1/4 inch between the line pairs (i.e. the red and the dotted, the dotted and the high blue, the red and the low blue). So the page holds 12 red lines; but the last red line is less than 1/8 inch to the edge of the page, so low dropping letters may be problematic on that line. There is a larger margin at the top but to me it is not necessary - so this could be an improvement. 5. The pages are not bright white, but they are a comfortable white. Not glossy - it is to write on after all. I don't know how to technically describe it. I'm satisfied with the color and thickness and overall page quality. So that's about it for now. I'm off to drawing left hand margins.
