Ran pump for about a week and then took them out had a back up pack of filter balls. Washed these off good a lot of water out put them in a netted bag for the washer. Washed, dryed and tada good as new they were all fluffed back up and ready for use. Even though these were green and nasty they were crispy white after a good washing. Review: Excellent pool upgrade - We are using these in our sand filter this year. They are working great and keeping the pool nice and clear. You will need to invest in a mesh laundry bag to wash them in, which I think should be included. This is the reason for the one star loss. Otherwise there wash up beautifully and work better than expected.

Quality filter balls
Just received this product and immediately open the package. Contents were vacuumed packed and packaged very well. I use canister filters on my 125 gallon aquarium and Iโm always in the market for filtering material such as this product. The filter balls are definitely if quality and have a good feel to them, meaning they have substance. They will serve my purposes well in filtering out debris from my aquarium tank. It makes a fine addition to the several medium types already in my filter. So far I am very pleased with the quality of the product. Definitely recommended.

Do not recommend
Stick with sand. Washing these is tedious and they definitely don't perform well over time. You can't get algae out of them after just a couple days no matter how much you try to wash them. Save yourself the hassle. Do not use these if you want a clean pool.

Not impressed with the filter balls
So disappointed, expected more filtration from reading other reviews....going back to sand. Balls just got too dirty way too fast and had to keep washing filter out every couple of weeks or I would get debris flowing back into the pool from the balls not filtering properly.

Better than sand, but not better than the original filter balls
These filter balls are not true filter balls. A company in the U.S. has a patent on the original filter balls. There are some important differences to these versus the original filter balls. I would recommend researching the original filter balls on google if contemplating purchasing these. One of the main differences is the fiber used. These are basically cotton tails, whereas the original is spun fiber. Due to this you cannot backwash with these filter balls as it doesn't work. You must remove them and wash them in your washer in a mesh bag or something similar (otherwise they can get stuck in your washer). If you attempt to backwash it accomplishes nothing except emptying your pool. Once you notice an increase in pressure or a decrease in the filters ability to filter you must take your sand filter apart and wash them. I recently did this process and was amazed at the amount of debris they captured. Don't get me wrong, these do work, they just require certain care if using. I noticed that some of the fibers were getting into my pool, which is when I knew is was time to take things apart and inspect them. They were extremely packed with debris and oils and needed a wash in the washing machine. I just used a quick cycle with detergent that was scent free. They washed up excellently and I reinstalled them and continued to use them. I seemed to be on a two week schedule with washing the balls. I finally got tired of this and purchased the original filter balls. I must say it's much easier to just backwash then it is to take them out and wash them. They last approximately one season before needing replacement whereas the original can last 5 to 6 years and be regenerated with a backwash. That said these do work with a few caveats. You must wash them in a washing machine, backwashing does nothing to clean them. Pay attention to the minimum and maximum levels in your sand filter and make sure to fill it up to the max line while gently pushing down on the balls to pack them in. You may use less or more than what they state on the packaging, but that's ok. Go by your gut and the amount of space left in your filter. You may notice some fibers being ejected into the pool, that means it's time for a wash. You'll notice a huge decrease in pressure when you switch from sand to these, that's ok as well and is normal. You may also notice a different sound from your pump. That's normal as well. It doesn't have to work as hard to pump water through the filter so you may notice it is quieter. One important thing to do is use half the clarifier you normally use as well. In summary these do work, and beat sand in many ways. That said there is a better alternative out there with the original filter balls. Just do a quick google search or amazon search (they are sold on amazon). I'm much happier with those than these, but these work as well. The price is similar between the original and these so if you are looking make sure to do your research before buying.

Really nice
These work great. Our sand filter was broken and was dumping sand into the pool, so we thought we try these out. They work great. There was a chemical smell at first, but I think that was because we were opening the pool and dumping chemicals into yucky water. We finally got the water blue, but it wasn't clear it was kind of foggy. So we cleaned the balls out and within a day the water was clear. And we have no more sand being dumped into the pool.

Better than in a sand pump
These save money when used in place of sand in a sand pump and filter. Easy to clean, simply take out, throw in the washer, and done.

I got these because I had enough of the pool pump pushing sand back into the pool after back washing the pump.these things worked so well I had a clear pool all summer. I needed up getting two bags so every couple of weeks I could swop them out and wash the dirty ones in the washing machine

The balls themselves look good (not tried to see if they are better than the sand we have currently yet) but they did not supply the bag with them so no way to store or wash them.
