Excellent guide to drawing portraits in coloured pencils. A wide variety of different subjects and styles.

I'm giving 4 stars as cover was damaged and price high for not hard back. But there is nothing else to fault. I have been doing pencil portraits for 6 years but still room for improvement and this certainly fits the bill. It is a book not really for beginners. The art work is just stunning. Each artist uses different pencils but if you are advanced enough you can match colours of your own. I can't wait to have a go at lady on the front. The sleeping baby and the girl blowing bubbles. Shame about the cover!

This is a beautiful book with work from 18 different artists with 11 full step by step demos. As well as complete projects there are smaller demonstrations to follow like hair, eyes etc. Although I've only done one project its still a lovely book to look through and read tips and advice from the different artists.

I really like Ann Kullberg's artwork. I got my art supplies on amazon.ca. I look forward to doing the examples (step-by-step}. I have one of her earlier books. The book arrived promptly but it was hidden in a box under some mixing bowls It took me quite a while to guess where my book was hidden. My copy is a new copy and worth every penny. I would recommend this book to other aspiring artists and accomplished artists. This book includes the artwork of many artists.

Das ältere Buch von Kullberg (Colored Pencil Portraits: Step by Step) gefällt mir wegen der darin enthaltenen Portraits nicht.In diesem Buch findet man interessante Perspektiven, und auch Portraits von Männern. Enthalten sind 11 sehr ausführliche Schritt für Schritt Anleitungen, wobei jedes Projekt von einem anderen Künstler ist. Die Stile unterscheiden sich erfreulicherweise teils erheblich - neben möglichst fotorealistischen Portraits finden sich auch einige die etwas freier gestaltet sind.Bei jedem Projekt wird angeführt welche Farben von welcher Marke verwendet wurden - meist Prismacolor und Polychromos, oft werden auch Luminance verwendet - und auf welchem Papier die Zeichnung entstanden ist.Die Anleitungen sind sehr ausführlich - beim ersten Portrait, das man mit der "Blick ins Buch" Funktion sehen kann, gibt es 14 Schritte (Bilder).Im zweiten Teil werden einzelne Aspekte aufgegriffen. Zum Beispiel: Wie zeichnet man Haare, Kleidung, Sommersprossen, natürlich auch Augen, Mund, Wimpern, etc.In diesem Teil gibt es weniger Abbildungen, es wird nicht mehr so ausführlich erklärt (meistens sind es drei Schritte). Hier findet man auch ein Portrait wo zuerst mit Aquarellstiften gearbeitet und danach mit Öl/Wachsstiften abgeschlossen wurde. Ein anderes geht Richtung Mixed - Media: Grundlage bildet ein Aquarell, dann kommen Farbstifte an die Reihe und zum Schluss werden Glanzlichter mit Acryl gesetzt.Für Anfänger ist das Buch nicht geeignet. Kenntnisse im Portraitzeichnen werden vorausgesetzt - es dreht sich nur mehr darum, wie man sein Bild mit Farbstiften am Besten ausarbeiten kann.Ich habe anfangs gezögert das Buch zu kaufen, weil es doch sehr teuer ist. Aber die 190 Seiten sind so vollbepackt mit Infos, dass ich das Buch definitiv behalten werde, auch wenn etliche Portraits nicht meinem Geschmack entsprechen.Enttäuschend fand ich, dass fast alle Künstler bei der Frage wie sie ihre Zeichnung erstellen, angaben, das Foto entsprechend zu vergrößern und es dann mittels Projektor, Raster oder gar Pauspapier übertragen.
