I bought this player because it came with its software. Many others have not, and they claimed that it was plug-and-play. They did not work out. After spending a little more with a player with it's own software, I thought I would give it a try. Well, it all worked out on this player that also runs cd. I am very pleased. And also learned buying a blu ray DVD not really needed. With my system I do not even see the diff. I am a very happy camper. Thanks Amazon.

Works

This USB drive comes with a CD for Cyberlink Media Suite 12, so I assumed it was necessary. I tried to install the CD but got an error message that some of the drivers were not signed and my computer security system suggested I NOT install the software. I started to investigate but decided to just try to play a CD and it worked just fine. So my advice would be try the drive and see if it works for you. I have a windows computer so I use Windows Media Player, which worked in harmony with the disc drive. The unit is compact and the cord that comes with it is 22" long, the perfect length to allow perfect placement of the unit. I did a lot of research before buying this unit and I'm very happy with my purchase!

I work for a business in which we sometimes receive discs that have sensitive information to be uploaded and distributed. Our new company issued Dell laptops do not have a disc drive. We ordered this external drive as a solution to our problems with uploading images/documents from a disc. We do not use this often and only used 3 times and the device stopped working. I am very disappointed with this purchase. I love my Dell laptop. I do not know what the disconnect is with the quality of this specific product but they need to go back to the drawing board on this one. This was also $60 to use 3 times, ridiculous!

Works Great

First of all the Dell external optical drive is great and works well. However the DVD player software (version 14.0) included is out of date and no longer supported for Windows 10 or 11. I had to purchase an upgrade to Cyberlink DVD player 22 at extra cost. Maybe I should have checked with the company's Tech support but as time was an issue and I did not. The other components of the Media suite 12 by Cyberlink work OK.

As soon as I attached the drive to a Windows 11 laptop, the drive was operable,. It played CD's immediately. However, to play DVD's I had to download a DVD player onto my laptop.

I purchased this because it was same maker as my laptop. I have only used play function so far. It works but is totally thin grade of plastic. The box wrap box was sturdier than the unit.
