Good, fresh mince.
Very good mince and very good value. Good use by date on it as well. I use this sometimes instead of beef mince for recipes that use a lot of overpowering ingredients like spices etc .. All tastes the same once I've dosed it up with half of my spice cupboard! Rob :D

Very minimal excess oil when cooking
This is a very practical supermarket mince that fits into everyday cooking, particularly for meals where you want a lean base without too much excess fat in the pan. The texture raw is fairly fine and consistent, with minimal excess liquid in the pack. It separates easily when cooking and browns evenly in the pan. Because it is 5% fat, it does not release much oil during cooking, so you do not get a greasy result, but you do need to be careful not to overcook it as it can dry out slightly faster than higher fat versions. Once cooked, the texture is relatively firm and fine rather than chunky. It works best in dishes where it is mixed into sauces, such as chilli, spaghetti bolognese, or shepherdโs style meals. On its own, it is quite plain, but that is expected for lean mince and it absorbs seasoning and sauces well. Flavour is clean but mild. You do not get much richness from the fat content, so the final taste depends heavily on how it is cooked and what it is paired with. Browning it properly at the start makes a noticeable difference, as it helps build a bit more depth rather than just steaming it in the pan. I have mainly used it for batch cooking and quick midweek meals, where consistency matters more than richness. It reheats reasonably well, although like most lean mince it can firm up slightly after chilling. From a value for money perspective, it sits in a sensible supermarket range for lean pork mince. You are paying for convenience and a healthier fat content rather than depth of flavour. Compared to slightly higher fat options, it feels a bit less forgiving in cooking, but it does offer a leaner end result which may suit certain meal plans. For regular use in mixed dishes, the cost feels justified. Overall, it is a reliable, no fuss ingredient. It does not bring much flavour on its own, but it performs consistently when cooked properly and works well as a base for a wide range of simple home cooked meals.
