Review: A Highly Recommended 5G Router with Excellent Support - I don't often write reviews but having tried many different 4G/5G routers, I wanted to save you time by recommending this this GL.iNet router, which I have found to be by far the best. Firstly, the speed is between 3X and 10X faster than the others out of the box but using an external 4-way MiMo antenna doubles the speed again and provides and excellent broadband service in a a rural area with a less than ideal 4G signal. It is easy to set up but there are a lot of additional features, such as VPNs, the ability to tether to another network, and dual SIM failover to name a few. After nearly 2 years, it has been very stable and reliable until a couple of weeks ago when it suddenly stopped working. Having a good product is one thing but the support provided by GL.iNet has been superb. The support team are knowledgeable and responsive and after some troubleshooting sent out a replacement unit. It is not the cheapest 5G router by any means but if you are looking for a good performing router particularly as a replacement for a fixed line service if it isn't great in your area then look no further. The support is excellent and they come with a 24 month warranty.
Review: A Game-Changer for Rural Connectivity - I've been using the GL-X3000 cellular gateway for a while now, and it has completely transformed our internet. Living in a rural home, our BT fibre connection was painfully slow, giving us only about 2 Mbit/s down and 1 Mbit/s up. Since installing this device with a 5G SIM, we're now getting a consistent 175 Mbit/s down and 4 Mbit/s up. The difference is night and day. It’s definitely on the expensive side, but I’m now confident it was the right call for a stable and powerful connection. One of the first things I have to mention is the support team. I had a specific question about the configuration and reached out, expecting to wait a while. They got back to me surprisingly quickly with a detailed, knowledgeable answer. It was great to deal with someone who obviously knew the product well. The device itself is incredibly well-made. You can feel the quality as soon as you unbox it; it has a reassuring weight and solid construction that makes you feel it's built to last. Beyond the sheer speed increase, the other features are what make it a truly standout product: Connectivity Options: The dual-SIM feature is fantastic for ensuring the connection is always on, automatically failing over if one network drops. It also handles Multi-WAN, so you can blend different internet sources. Modern Speeds: It combines that powerful 5G modem with Wi-Fi 6, so the fast speeds are delivered effectively to all my devices. Built-in VPN: The onboard WireGuard and OpenVPN clients work really well and don't seem to create a bottleneck, which is a big plus for security. OpenWrt: The fact that it runs on OpenWrt is a huge advantage if you like to tinker and customise your network settings. So, while it's a significant purchase, its performance, solid build, and the surprisingly good support have made me feel it's worth the investment. If you're stuck with poor broadband and need a serious, feature-rich cellular router, I'd highly recommend it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Would this router support an external MIMO 4x4 antenna?, I can see the the antennas on the router are detachable but say they are SMB connectors?**
A: It's already 4x4 MIMO why do you want to attach additional it has 6 already. SMB?? I'm not sure what your asking. The antenna are for WiFi and cellular if you wanted to add more range you just add an additional routers in broadcast only so it picks up the current signal and pushes the same signal or use devolo homeplug and plug it into via LAN then and just use additional home plug APs or ethernet to get more connectivity. Hope this help

As a device its a beast it can do it all. Use the ISP in modem mode attached it to this via LAN then add 2 nano sims pay as you go ad back and bond them.

**Q: If my Samsung S22 Ultra 5g phone gets download speeds ranging between 100mbps+ up to 360mbps on EE 5G network will this router perform the same**
A: Dear Customer,

We would like to inform you that we have not specifically tested the Samsung S22 Ultra 5G phone on our router. However, in general, routers tend to perform better than mobile phones when it comes to receiving signals.

Best regards,
GL.iNet

**Q: Has this model got the internal battery**
A: No it hasn’t. The same router is available with built-in battery as model GL-XE3000 Puli. I have one of these but I had to purchase from the manufacturer website.

**Q: Can this use both SIMs at the same time, or is it only for failover?**
A: Think this router is aimed at mobile home users.
If you go between a 4g & 5g signal you will not lose Internet with 2 sims
I am using it at home with one sim got good 5g signal.
Got 6 things connected to it getting 300 to 400 download speed with VPN connection
Got unlimited data sim from Smarty £20 a month
There is a video on YouTube review from someone in America
Hope this helps!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It gave my 45 foot narrowboat strong Wi-Fi
*by H***G on 5 July 2026*

After much research and head scratching I decided to get this router for my newly purchased 45 foot narrowboat. I didn't want to drill anywhere or run cables over the lovely wood interior so decided to try this one, sitting at the front end of the boat by a pair of wooden doors. I figured less metal would help with reception there. Note that it does come with a wall mount so you could place it by a window quite easily. It also came with an ethernet cable and adapters for different socket types. After adding the nano SIM and setting that up with the network provider I chose it started working very easily. Set up was therefore good and I am a major technophobe. It has functions like a VPN that I have not yet delved into. I have only had it a day or so and as such cannot yet comment on reliability over time. I can say that on the Smarty network I use in a rural area this router sent very strong signal not just right down the interior of my narrowboat but up to the tiller. Even then it had only dropped by a tiny smidge. I'm sure I could have gone further and still be linked to the Wi-Fi. This impressed me greatly. I now don't need to fit an external antenna which is great. I didn't want to drill holes in my boat and run ugly cables about. It's not too big a device; mine is standing on a wooden plinth and it looks good there. I will know more about reliability in time. Perhaps other reviews here may speak to that already. All I can say is it receives 4G and 5G excellently and then sends out Wi-Fi from that very well.
