how often should I change carbon filter

The carbon filters are good for between 2,000 - 3,000 gallons. It does depend how dirty your water is to begin with, but if you're just filtering tap water then they'll last longer. Do remember to clean them about once every 3 months with a Scotchbrite pad or similar.
