ATOTO S8 MS exceeds my expectaions.
Having been a user of Japanese electronics for years, I was skeptical of the potential for this unit to be as good as those units. However, the cost of the Japanese brands with comparable features was more than I could justify. Doing the research on the S8 on You Tube, most of what I saw and read was positive. I took the chance and ordered. The unit exceeded most of my expectations. The unit was well packaged, with everything included for a basic install. I was replacing the OEM radio on my '02 SAAB 9-5, so this was not a basic installation. I ordered the cameras and steering wheel interface as well. This installation IS NOT for the amateur or faint of heart as the SAAB does not have a true Double DIN opening. The touch screen is bright and clear. The screen is visible from all angles and responds well to touch. The CarPlay, Bluetooth and other wireless functions are flawless. Even setting up the steering wheel controls was a simple matter once I got the interface set up correctly. I wanted the unit with physical buttons for basic functions, the buttons have a good tactile feel and exude quality not usually found in a Chinese made product. Even the instructions were clear and not written in "Chinglish", which was a refreshing change of pace. There are plenty of Online tutorials to help you with your installation. I have not needed the customer support, but most people claim that this is also above par as companies go. I did have to design and 3D print a custom bezel filler plate because of the "Odd" size of the OEM SAAB radio. Another thing that was necessary was a matching device to change the line level outputs to prevent over driving the factory Harman-Kardon Amplifier.

UPDATE: Love it, but AT&T will not work
UPDATE 2 more weeks later: The talksim prepaid sim card worked to give me LTE data on t-mobile. The APNs auto populated from the SIM card. And the atoto worked as a wifi hotspot. So, if you are on t-mobile or get a sim that uses t-mobile, then you can get LTE data. It's a wonderful device. I can use android auto. We just did a trip and used carplay with my wife's iPhone. And the kids can connect their tablets over bluetooth to share music. I have the steering wheel controls how I want them on a 2004 silverado. And I have the USB in the glove box with a high capacity thumbdrive with my mp3s. It's kind of amazing what you get for the price point.UPDATE 2 weeks later: I ended up re-ordering this radio after trying some other head units. It's nice and having full android with app store is great. That said, it will NOT WORK WITH AT&T subscriptions. The IMEI says "unsupported device" on AT&T's site. I tried swapping a sim card from a tablet into the atoto and setting up the APNs, but I could only get bars and never data. Further, AT&T flagged that sim and blocked its data. So, I had to call them to get my old tablet unblocked and back on the network. There are preset APNs for T-Mobile and the T-Mobile site says "partially supported." So, T-mobile might work. I'm trying a prepaid SIM card from TalkSim (ASIN B0D73RG84F).I'll keep trying to get the radio on the cellular network. But even in the absence of that data connection, I really like it as a head unit.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I wanted this to work SO SO bad. It's a really nice device. The flaw for me is you cannot add APNs and hence cannot get a cellular data connection.Problem 1: AT&T does not recognize the IMEI as being supported (on website and in a store). That's fine I can use an old or fake IMEI to get a sim card and manually add an APN. That's solvable.Problem 2: The settings are really buggy and the APNs do not persist. I put in an AT&T sim card and got the 4G and bars icons, but without the right APN there is no data. I tried using an AT&T APN from another AT&T tablet and the APN from the AT&T documentation. They would never stay in the settings, even after reboots and various methods of adding. In North America (USA) If you are on T-Mobile there are default configurations in the APN settings. I tried a lot of angles. It will probably work on T-Mobile out of the box. If you have another carrier like AT&T or Verizon that is not in the default APNs list, you will not be able to add the APNs to get a data connection.I worked with Atoto support via there website and they were very responsive within the constraints of timezones. I gave them all the technical details about the bugs and carrier bands. Hopefully, they fix this with a firmware update.

MAJOR UPGRADE. 2006 Honda CRV.
Likes:- Customer support: was able to connect me to and walk me through firmware updates.- Snappiness: in part due to high RAM. Swiping and tapping through the display is a smooth experience and what you'd like to see in modern devices.- Wireless AndroidAuto: connected wirelessly automatically for me, whereas I've heard that other user needed to first connect with USB.- Data: if not using Bluetooth or AndroidAuto (via your phone's data plan) or connected to the phone's Wi-Fi hotspot, then the unit could utilize a sim card and a mobile device plan.- User interface: like having a tablet on your dash connected seamlessly to my stock steering wheel media controls and stock radio antenna.- Value: packed with features that only start to appear on mainstream head units over $1000.- Physical buttons: this is a personal preference that Atoto appears to offer a touch-screen based version of.Dislikes:- Dash kit: unfortunately the included double din kit is just a few millimeters too narrow to close the gap around the head unit and the trim in my '06 CRV EX- Android skin: there are a few android features that I'd like to see integrated with this unit. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they come with future updates.Looking forward to installing:- a camera on the front grill with DVR capability- blind spot cameras- Atoto in-dash amplifier- Atoto underseat subwooferOverall, I HIGHLY recommend this unit to modernize any car running an old radio/stereo/headunit. You'll no longer be limited to listening to just the Radio or to basic Bluetooth or to your grandmother's CDs. I'm very glad that I went with this version out of the choices of "Second Generation S8 headunits."
