Terratec Aureon Xfire 8 USB
I have just used this unit to record a vinyl LP using my Rega RP1 and Rega Fono pre-amp into my PC via USB and Audacity (free online software) at 192 Khz sampling rate and 24 bit high definition quality, exported as both wave and FLAC. All the cables I needed were in the box and the result was amazing. The recording is as good as the LP even when played back on a Naim Superuniti and Quad electrostatic speakers. I did have to reboot the PC several times when installing the Terratec drivers and software but it was all up and running in half an hour. All the required cables come with the unit. I suggest downloading the manual and drivers from Terratec before starting the installation. Read the manual before you start - the driver software is clunky but OK once you learn to double click on icons to obtain a list of actions to set up the drivers for each input and output.. The unit is beautifully made and encased in aluminium - like a piece of jewellery - and the sound quality is superb for the price. The unit has a two year guarantee. It took just four days to arrive from Germany via Amazon. It fits in the palm of your hand and is powered by the USB connection so you can carry it around with a laptop easily. It records from line or microphone so it could be a portable twin track recording studio with a microphone and laptop but I only used it for recording LPs. It comes with ASIO drivers for low latency recording. It outputs audio in stereo via gold plated phono plugs, or surround sound via mini jack plugs, to connect a laptop or PC to a hi-fi or AV system. It has a headphone output, with volume control, and also comes with cables for digital audio connection. Highly recommended and superb value for money.

Sketchy success at best.
Lack of manual and online support information in English makes this challenging to use. Disapointingly it seems to only allow one input at once despite the multiple in ports. Bought to support mic recording and overlay line in symultaneously. Sketchy success at best.

OK Device, Poor Customer Support
It's great, when it works, saw loads of issues when I moved to Windows 10 which is why I stopped using it for almost a year now. After attempting to use it again recently, the newest driver does not work with Windows 10 (tested on multiple devices), digital driver signature issues. The customer support is poor, no interest in the issue. Nothing has been done about the issue for months (since the beginning of the year).

Terratec's disinterest in their customers spoils a good product. U can do much better.
The Terratec Aureon X Fire 8.0 HD USB DAC arrived on time and was well presented in a nice box with a good set of connection cables. The unit is very attractive with its aluminium top plate and large volume control. Unfortunately, it seems a little fragile as the top plate is beginning to separate from the plastic body. Having unsuccessfully tried four different operating systems I was convinced that the Terratec Aureon X Fire 8.0 HD was not going to work. I decided to send it back but I was a bit nervous that, with my three weeks of constant fiddling with software set-ups, I might be out of the allowed time to return it. Terratec's software would not install on Windows 7 or Windows 10. I could get 44.1kHz sound out from Windows and OSX but Linux refused to do anything except turn on the SPDIF. I searched the internet for additional manuals and downloaded the Windows driver software from Terratec (the same as on the CD) but I couldn't get any information beyond the silly little 'quick install' booklet. After a couple of weeks I even forgot about my quest for information about the unmentioned little U1 /U2 switch on the bottom. On the final night, just before boxing the Aureon for return to Amazon, I decided to have one more go on ALSA (I got quite good at playing with Pulse Audio, Alsa, Jack and OSS) with the little U1 switch changed over to U2, of course, it worked. Why is there no mention of this accursed switch? What does the 'U' stand for - Useless_1 and Unmentioned_2? I can now change sample rates and the software installs on Windows. Linux works a treat with Pulse Audio on Opensuse Leap 42.1. The sound is good if not outstanding. Terratec, you have wasted a great deal of my time and I will be very slow in buying or recommending any of your products in future.

Good sound, but..
The sound is good, however when no audio is playing you get a high pitch noise. When recording with the microphone the very same high pitch noise can be heard in the background on the recording. The manufacturer says this device has 104 SNR on the input. This cant be true since the sound you get when recording is horrible. Full of background humming and a high pitch noise. I tried both inputs (line-in and mic) with my RØDE microphone, the recordings where crap. If your looking for a external sound card, get the Xonar U7. It costs slightly more, but trust me, its worth every penny.

Tiny size, big performance.
I've long been a fan of Terratec sound cards and this little baby lives up to the standard of the larger more expensive models. The sound quality is great, the drivers are stable and it takes up so little space.

Affected by interference
Terrible item. Picks up noise from many electrical household machines and affects the audio signal. I used with optical spdif cable and screened/ shielded usb cable. Perhaps if used in its own faraday cage it may work ok.

Solide Verarbeitung, Solide Leistung
