A Living Space

I am three quarters of the way through reading this and think it is excellent. As mentioned by other reviewers a lot of the properties are hotels. She seems to have plenty and I would love to stay in them. Kit Kemp's style is what I would describe as comfortable and homely, therefore the images she chooses are easily translatable to a family home. She blends all types of furniture and fabrics together for what I think is a lovely style, it's underlying theme is essentially traditional but there are plenty of interesting or surprising touches and lots of use of modern pieces, art and fabrics alongside antiques, ethnic patterns and quirky ornaments. She is clearly very talented as I found that nothing jars and I adore her use of colour - which happens to be right up my street. She is particularly interested in fabrics and adopts some innovative ways of using them. Somehow she blends pattern and colour to just the right extent. It is not too matched or overdone and the rooms are welcoming and cheerful. Her commentary is helpful, explaining what she has done to achieve a particular look. I have gleaned loads of ideas for a barn conversion I am about to furnish so I am very glad I bought this book. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone interested in interiors unless you are a minimalist or like bling, in which case it is not your style (but I think you can see this from the cover).

I love KIT KEMPS interiors. Just can’t stop looking through this book. I am already looking to buy her other interiors books. Wish I had discovered her years ago. Photography amazing.

This is a stunning book. Having worked in one of her hotels years ago I expected it to be good but it is really glorious. I takes great skill to pull together all the different fabrics and colours she uses. On almost every page there were ideas which I would never have thought of and the way she marries together all the different colours, textures and patterns is superbly done.

This is a great book and has given me ideas for the interior of my own home which is most useful. I do like Kit Kemp's work very much and have stayed in a couple of the Firmdale Hotels over the last few years. The interiors are wonderful and you do feel very much at home when staying over. This book features some of the interiors from the hotels alongside those from Kit Kemp's home. It is interesting to know more about the designs of the interiors and the thought process behind their creation. The photos are of excellent quality and the commentary alongside very useful. I hope this is not the only publication from this very talented and inspirational interior designer. Maybe when the Kemps' current on-going project at Ham Yard (Soho) is completed, we can look forward to more insight and details as to how what I am sure will be a fantastic, stylish hotel came into being. Great purchase and I recommend it to those who are looking for some inspiration for their own homes and indeed those who like the Firmdale brand and admire the work of this interior designer.

I thought hard about ordering this book because of the price tag but this book is beautiful. Wonderful large vibrant photographs on every page. A delight to look through time and time again. Well worth the expense.

A heartfelt book, in which Kit Kemp gives the reader an exclusive insight to her design universe. The fantastic pictures are very inspirational, exceeded by Kit Kemps personal comments, which gives you a rare understanding for the passion for interior and art. I value Kit Kemps sincere respect and appreciation for the artist and artisans giving their tribute to enhance living.

I brought this book for my mother . I have brought her many of these types of books over the years . She said it was a Absolutely beautiful book and it is in a top 3 of all time .

This amazing book by Kit Kemp is simply inspiring. The ability to piece together eclectic mixes of furniture, fabrics , artworks, etc. into workable and joyous spaces that appeal to the soul but are still cool and contemporary, is a talent that is deserving of the recognition that abounds her. From hotel design to the intimacy of her own home , she shares her theories on design, making them easily understood and accessible for everyone. The wonderful collage of photos add to the inspiration that perhaps we can all achieve the same results . It is an adventure for the senses, wherever you look there is always more to see, no matter how many times you may view the same space. A must have if you appreciate interior design and aspire to create beautiful spaces that are personal , rich and never dull.

I have had the great pleasure of staying in Firmdale hotels in London and New York (sadly they are not elsewhere, yet) and was thrilled to discover that Ms. Kemp had written this book. The suggestions and ideas with the stunning pictures make a great how-to-guide. I intend to steal a great number of her ideas for my country home! And to seek out her fabric designs at Chelsea textiles, which I have loved since staying at the Covent Garden Hotel in London.
