Citizen 295-56 Original Capacitor Battery for Eco-Drive

The battery has given my solar powered watch a new lease of life. It was expensive, but far cheaper than getting a new watch, which had sentential value.

Worked perfectly in a 20yo Japanese Domestic Market Citizen Attesa - just unscrew the back, take out the old cell, slot in the new one with the brass attachment, lightly grease the gasket and screw the back on. The watch immediately fired up and has been running beautifully since.

This is the genuine item. There are other traders on Amazon who somehow collect used ones and sell them as new. This genuine item has enough initial charge to power the watch as soon as it is installed. The fake ones don't, after installing them the watch needs to be exposed to a few days of bright sunlight before it starts ticking, and will go dead after a few months.

Having contacted Citizen UK only to be told that my watch was obsolete and couldn’t be fixed (fair enough as it 20 years old) I was resigned to putting it in a draw and forgetting about it… However, I decided to have a go at replacing the ‘capacitor battery’ myself as the back is a press fit and so relatively straightforward. Also being a genuine Panasonic part the battery fitted easily and now the watch is working a great! However, as I assume the part was new old stock (NOS) then this is probably something to consider because performance of the battery may have degraded hence 4 stars.

I needed a new battery for my citizen Ecodrive and this was fairly priced and was definitely a lot cheaper than going to Timpson's to get it fitted. Would highly recommend.

My Citizen pen didnt work anymore and so got this to replace the battery. It was a little fiddly to fit but wasn’t hard. Unfortunately it didn’t work which suggests more than something else was wrong with the watch.

My guess is these batteries sit for a while so don't be alarmed if it takes a little time. My original battery lasted for 21 years. When the battery died I removed it and waited for 5 days for the battery. Once I placed the battery in the watch went into the 2 second "undercharged" stage. I placed the watch under a lamp and after about an hour it was charged enough to go out of the 2 second mode and I was able to set the watch. Mine has a "CHARGE" blinking indicator, so that helped. I don't know if it would have helped if I would have left the watch out in light while I was waiting for the battery as there was no battery to bank on but perhaps there is a little built-in storage. Anyway, it's working great now good for another 20 years I hope.
