Good idea that works
Bought an extra couple of these trays to go with a Kingwin enclosure (which came with its own tray) many months ago. So far, I've used one of the extra trays to hold a Seagate 250 GB IDE internal HD. Installation of a HD into the tray is a snap--connect the electrical plugs, fasten the HD to the tray with included screws and slide/snap the tray lid closed. Works fine. The trays allow you to pull out any HD together with its own tray and plug in another tray/HD. Switching HD's just takes seconds. Trays can be locked into enclosure with a key. Instructions caution to be sure HD is turned off before removing tray. Great way to use multiple HD's with a single enclosure. Easy to back up data on multiple HD's with same enclosure.

Solidly built, keeps drives cool, a bit pricey
This is a nicely made product with a solid feel to it. It's about twice as expensive ($40 for a complete drawer and caddy) as the Startech DRW110ATA 3.5" Removable Hard Drive Drawer, which is the drawer I began with, and have 6 copies of. The $20 StarTech is a lot less solidly built. One of the six drawers failed.I have recently become sensitive to drive temperatures because over the past year or so I have lost 4 hard drives, not knowing why until the last drive died, when a diagnostics test indicated the drive died through overheating to a temperature of 68 degrees celsius. At that point I downloaded a freeware applet called HDD Thermometer, that shows compactly in the system tray the temperatures of all drives equipped with heat sensors. Through observing the reported temps on 3 different computers I have changed my beliefs concerning keeping drives cool, and, have found it keeps drives cooler to keep the computer case on and the drive drawer lids on. This finding is based on just 3 computers -- a Dell and two ASUS based clones -- and might not be entirely general.Right now on my ASUS P4P800S clone, which has been running continuously for the past 12 hours, I am seeing respectable temps of 33 degrees celsius on both drives, with the drives enclosed in Kingwin KF-21 removable racks. One further wrinkle -- the room I'm in is 71 degrees Fahrenheit -- and I've found drive temperatures do vary according to room temperature (surprise surprise).Sorry to make this review so long (350 words) but I think an understanding of heat dissipation is critical to hard drive survival for those of us who play at reconfiguring our machine hardware.P.S. I seem to recall that complete drawers (rack plus drawer insert) were about $30 two years ago from Egghead... if this recollection is correct, the price rise to $42 is way higher than inflation.
