I purchased this APC 1000VA sine wave UPS to safeguard my PC and networking equipment from the frequent power fluctuations and occasional outages prevalent in my area. Open the fully recyclable box (except the film bag), remove the UPS. Big yellow sticker on the side shows you how to connect the battery. Easy to access dual-sealed lead-acid batteries; it should be simple to have a local shop replace them in 5 years when they start running low on capacity. All outlets on the back, over half for battery back up and another several for surge protection only. Includes protection for F-type RF cables (for your cable modem) and a pair of Gig-E ports (also I assume for protection of your inbound to internal internet connection). A third RJ45 port connects to a special RJ-45 to USB cable to connect to your Windows machine, and from there you can set up the software to control the UPS, monitor the power, battery, and set shutdown times when the battery gets low during a power outage. Software is functional if not beautiful, and free download from APC. Small - fits well beside my tiny desk. Easy to shut off the display and beeper from the front panel or software. Nice, as the unit is in my bedroom and I'd rather not have a bright LED screen on all the time. A quality battery backup at a fair price from a reputable company. Will buy again (this is my second one actually - bought a smaller one for the router and cable modem)

It was easy to set up. Just plug in everything you want to remain active if the line goes down. I plugged in the desktop, the monitor, the printer, a USB hub, a scanner. My normal power usage is just the computer and monitor; the other devices are usually off. (Be sure to plug into the side of the outlet strip on the rear panel that is supported during power outages, called the "Battery Backup Outlets") By repeatedly pressing the 'Display' button, I can read my line voltage (123V), line frequency (60.0Hz), Event counter (0), Minutes of available battery operation (85 minutes), Load (39 Watts), Percentage of capability (6%). It's kind of fun to know all those things. Note that I am using this UPS at a small fraction of its capability (6%). The unit was running perfectly but then I did the acid test. I pulled the plug on the UPS and......and.....everything kept working perfectly on battery power. Proof of the Pudding. The desktop will not see violent line surges or power outages. I believe that desktop life is thereby preserved. We get 'power blips' where power goes off for fractions of a second. Such blips can cost a lot of time (and frustration) if work is lost. I should mention that another feature that attracted me was that this is a pure sine wave unit. That is, the power furnished to the computer is a sine wave, and not a square wave or other wave made of different amplitude square waves. (To use the current parlance 'fake sine waves'.) The unit has a USB outlet on the front panel so if power goes out, I can charge my phone from the UPS battery. If I shut down promptly following a power outage (which I would do), there will be plenty of charge left in the battery for keeping cell phones alive for days if not weeks. I have nothing bad to say about this unit. Maybe I'll revisit this review once i get some time on it. But as of right now (after 3 days of ownership), it's everything I wanted and needed.

This UPS works for what is is with the following exceptions: • I have a 400M connection from SuddenLink via cable modem. One of the reasons I purchased this particular UPS was because it has the cable coax protection. Since the RJ-45 ports are clearly labeled "Gigabit", I expected the coax ports to likewise support higher speeds but they do not. When I first connected the cable through the UPS, I used the RG59 cable that came with the UPS and everything appeared to work, until my wife and I were both connected to work, using more bandwidth, then we started to have intermittent loss of connection. Realizing the problem was likely the RG59 cable, I replaced it with a RG6 cable but we still had the same problem. I had to move the SuddenLink line back to the cable modem directly to get our internet working smoothly again. • I should have seen this myself before I purchased it but the manufacturer has aligned the outlets incorrectly for most of today's networking equipment. I ended up having to plug a power strip into the UPS and then plug my networking equipment into the power strip. • Finally, as other reviewers noticed, there is a slight odor coming from the unit. With a background in electronics engineering and having worked in electronics repair for many years, this odor is something I typically came across when components were being pushed too close to their tolerances, causing them to run warm, which can also lead to the unit failing earlier. The smell does not bother me as I have my equipment in a vented closet but I would not want it in the same room with me. I am also concerned about the potential for early failure; time will tell on that one.

Works good, using it to power a Starlink system which can be susceptible to line voltage glitches. Comes with sealed lead acid batteries, easy to setup and seems to be an excellent quality well designed UPS.

1-20-23: One of the two APC UPS 1000VA Sine Wave UPS Battery Backup and Surge Protectors mentioned below has yet another failed battery. This is its 3rd failed battery within its warranty period. APC by Schneider agreed to replace the battery under warranty. But the company *also* said they don't have it in stock, and it will take around 5 or even 6 weeks to arrive because they don't have it in stock. That takes the unit out of service because it does not fulfill its advertised purpose. The second tech rep with whom I talked said to continue using the unit as surge protector, without relying upon its battery backup. Of course that defeats the advertised purpose of the UPS. Shop other brands is what I recommend. APC by Schneider is but a shadow of its formerly effective company. I've had fair experience with CyberPower Systems, and I've also seen good, written recommendations of Tripp Lite. Update 9-13-21: I'd bought two of these APC Smart-UPS BR1000MS units and put both into service within three months of each other. The one about which I'm writing now has been in use for around 2 3/4 years on a PC and the UPS has just failed, twice. The first failure was when it shut completely off, lights out -- while booting the computer -- and while still having wall power. The second failure, three days later, was when the APC unit declared there was zero battery remaining although it was receiving electricity from a Honda backup generator designed for sensitive electronics. After turning the UPS back on, and testing it without a load, within 60 seconds the unit counted down from 79 minutes runtime to 0 minutes. Then the UPS itself completely off, lights out, powering itself down. If those were the only two challenges, they might be acceptable if APC by Schneider could replace the UPS quickly. But when I phoned them a second time after the second failure of the same UPS, they said that tech diagnosis and support were not available although I talked to a live human. So I had to wait an additional day to talk with a live human. On a third telephone call, APC agreed to ship and deliver a replacement UPS within 3 to 5 business days. In addition to these things, when I talked with APC's tech the first time, four days ago, he gave me a case number, and said I'd receive e-mails about the case. The e-mails never arrived. *If* APC delivers a new replacement unit within the time frame it promised, then I might consider their UPS gave a reasonable service life for what was paid for it, in an area with periodic brownouts or blackouts. The APC Smart-UPS BR1000MS powering another machine, an iMac, has performed steadily and without incident, using the same wall power and infrequent Honda backup generator during blackouts. Original review March 2020: Bought a second one of these specifically for use with an older iMac because our locale has comparatively frequent brownouts and power outages. This model BR1000MS is said to have clean sine wave output and power conditioning, which would mean less issues in user support. The iMac's user listens to and watches a fair bit of audio and visual media, and also connects a set of wireless headphones to their computer. Apple's desktop software has an Energy Saver function which allows simple configuration of run times. APC does not have power management software for Macs at this writing.

This is a nice, reasonably priced UPS that outputs a sine wave - a plus for more sensitive electronics. I’ve had an identical model for years now and it continues to do a great job, so I bought another. Unfortunately, this one arrived with a defect. Amazon wouldn’t replace it. I knew this was not returnable upon purchase, but generally, you’d expect a seller to get a replacement to you. Instead, they wasted about a half hour of my time, ultimately making me contact APC to make a warranty claim. Fortunately, APC support was quick and efficient and shipped a replacement to me quickly. A new low for Amazon. If looking to purchase another UPS, I’ll buy elsewhere in the future. My only complaint is minor. There’s a quiet, constant coil whine. It was present in the original unit as well as the replacement (this wasn’t the defect), so it must be normal. It’s not noticeable unless you’re very close to the unit.

I bought this to replace a 1500 I had that is nearly 10 years old and the display wasn't working very well. This unit is smaller and lighter but my power requirements for the system have decreased with age also. Appreciate the sine function of this UPS so it's a good value. The battery bay is a lot more intelligent than the previous one so replacement will be a breeze but the batteries are stuck together end to end rather than side by side so duct tape may be required. Display is a nice to look at white LED which isn't super bright which is perfect for dark places, but is visible under near direct sunlight also. No CD's or included software so you'll need to go online to download the management software, but its only required if you plan to do automatic shutdown when on battery. It has two ethernet ports for connecting your ISP modem on the IN and your computer on the OUT. I wouldn't use this in a larger network environment but if you have this stand alone in a remote location I think this is pretty handy. I did not test it but the idea seems reasonable. My system is a 1000W powered beast with high end video cards and powerful CPU's and even some 3.5" drives, though I'll be eliminating these shortly, and I should get about 67 minutes standby on this. No monitors or other devices are plugged into this but it has ample space if you need 6 Battery/Surge and 4 Surge plugs should be enough for this guy. Overall very happy with this and hope to enjoy it for years to come.

The APC 1000VA Back-UPS Pro(BR1000MS) is true sine wave, at less than 2 brown notes, with a 1080 Joules surge protection. This kicks into the battery fast enough that my computer doesn't even stutter, even during a brown out. Front mounted USB-C and USB-A ports are convenient for charging cellular and external battery while protecting those valuable devices. In terms of value, the BR1000MS is comparably priced with the BR1000G and BR700G but with almost 3 times the surge protection and the BR1000MS has true sine wave instead of stepped approximation of sine wave that most other uninterruptible power supplies in this price range have. Sensitive electronic devices really appreciate the true sine wave as it is exactly the same as the juice coming from the wall outlet. APC has been in the game for a long time and their products are the gold standard which most other UPS are compared against. This UPS is not an exception to that and is a great value for these features!

I bought this unit about a month or two ago. This unit stood out in it's features: Pure sine wave conversion, ample outlets, decent runtime, etc. I personally bought it as the power where I live is kinda unreliable, and I wanted to increase the lifespan of my electronics. It arrived a few days sooner than expected to my delight. The UPS had been placed in a larger amazon box which allowed it to tumble around during shipping. Upon unboxing the larger amazon box, the UPS's box was slightly beat up, but nothing super unusual. I plugged in the UPS, and it seemed to be defective as seen in the attached video. The UPS arrived with quality control test results attached, but it had passed those tests. Contacting APC by email for a RMA was futile. However, they have a 1 on 1 live chat, and I was able to be connected to a support agent within a minute. After an hour, I was told I would be given a RMA number and shipping label to ship the defective unit back in exchange for a fresh one. The shipping label arrived by email several days later, which sucked. They didn't give a tracking number for the new unit, but I was able to request it by going to the live chat once again. After a solid month after first ordering from amazon, the new unit arrived. It seems to work well, though the battery on the unit seems worse. The old unit, while defective, reported 250 minutes with nothing plugged in. The new one only gave 125 minutes, but I wasn't about to send it back again. Otherwise, the new unit works well. I also set up the included software, PowerChute. The software lacks some features and hasn't really been updated. It works for my use of monitoring power draw. Do note that plugging a power bar that isn't made by APC in the output of the unit WILL void the Equipment Protection Policy, aka the one that will give you up to $250k if your equipment is damaged by the unit. TL:DR; Customer service is great if you contact them via live chat, quality control on APC's end seems fine, their included software kinda sucks, their email response time is pretty bad, and the unit is overall great.

I am running this and have the battery back up taking care of my TV, ps5, ps4, and sound bar. The power seems to go out from time to time in my city and it was starting to mess with my ps5, and 4. Often leading to disk repairs being performed. Also the power going out resets all the settings on my sound bar. So I moved the tv, sound bar and , ps4 and 5 to the battery back up. The network switch and fans for the entertainment centre off the non back up side. So far when the power goes out everything does what it is suppose to do. In the event of power lose well using all these devices it gives enough time to power them down safely or put into standby mode where I can easily get about 180 min in standby. I also like that it has logged events.
