As far as sturdiness, the guide parts aren’t machined to be a perfect fit so there is a bit of movement between the parts. So just make sure to tighten everything down real tight to reduce that. But the farther you extend the guide arm out, the more it is prone to shift. I used a 1/4” Straight Bit for checking these depths but the minimum extension depth is about 3/16” from the edge of your work piece and the maximum is about 4 1/8”.
