Awesome backpack for a great price! Read for internal compartment review
OK, when I was choosing through a list of backpacks, this made the top 5 list along with other Targus styles (grove-dint like the zipper, ascend-dint like the outer compartment, brilliance-equally awesome.., and sport- too big). Compared to the other styles, this one does lack padding on the shoulder straps and the back. This does not bother me as the price was within my budget as a grad student. However, for those who value their laptop, I highly recommend purchasing a 'THIN and SNUG' sleeve for added padding(there's a $1000 equipment inside!! errrrrr duhhh), as I felt uneasy with the limited padding on the back and my old sleeve was just too big to crunch into its compartment. .Fits ideally for my 15.6" enclosed in a Etekcity Reversable Neoprene sleeve I bought for $6. The laptop compartment is located in the the back and has a thin padding with velcro to secure it (i dont use it and you have to pull the top back to access it. It is in the largest compartment big enough to fit 2 binders (2+1"), 1-2 text depending on size, couple folders and a big headphone. The middle compartment is smaller and can hold 1 binder/book. I put my camera, comp. charger, mouse and has slots for cards and other smaller items in this. The third compartment(outermost) is much much smaller. Can hold couple pens, phone charger, keys, gum, candies. Despite the limited padding, its very comfortable!! I like this much better than my old swiss...If you need more cargo space than that mentioned above, I recommend going with the ' Targus -sport'. My previous Swiss gear was just too thick and too many compartments for my need. Despite the seemingly high quality of the swiss, the shoulder strapp began to rip and had to 'Ghetto Sew" it back together. I said enough and bought this one.Pro: Light, sturdy, comfortable, compact, stylish, and cheap. Fits 15.6" laptop w/ sleeve perfectly, elevated laptop compartment so it wont hit the ground if books or binders are inside. The yellow targus logo is subtle adding accent to the design. Higher quality than other brands. Lets see how long this will last. (so far 3 month of use).Con: the laptop compartment lack some padding on the back surface (the side touching your back). So far, happy with the purchase and highly recommend. Thinking of buying one for my girl.

#1 Laptop Travel Bag--Amazing
The Targus Checkpoint Friendly Air Traveler is the best laptop/travel backpack out there. I've used mine on domestic and international air travel for over three years now and it has performed amazingly. It has endured Asia and the Middle East to include war zones with toughness. Since I purchased the backpack in 2009, I have not had any quality problems--no broken zippers, tears, stains, etc. Yet the best part of the backpack resides in its uber-utilitarian design.- Perfect size for my 15.4 laptop with some room. A 16 inch will also fit fine. The padding and the velcro lock strap inside the laptop compartment keeps the laptop secured. If you don't carry a laptop, you can easily get an Ipad/tablet in the compartment plus room to store a fleece jacket or pair of jeans.- The checkpoint friendly feature does make security a breeze. Note a previous reviewer's tip to put your tolietries in this section, as that is what I figured out after a few uses. It's also a good place to hold magazines/newspapers.- The main compartment has a divider and small internal pocket for little items such as an mp3 player, batteries, alarm clock, ear plugs, or a small headset. I use mine to store a book, a folder and my headset. There's rooms to spare- Inbetween the main and front compartment is a little zipper area that can carry coins, pens, etc. I use it to shove my travel reciepts in, as well as carry coins and my car keys.- The front compartment is great for everything else you need to carry. I have pens, highlighters, a small flashlight, ID cards, other cards, aspirin, flash drives, passport, etc. See the pictures for all the little compartments--open and zippered in this section.- The side compartments are great for carrying a small umbrella and a water bottle. For a water bottle, I recommend you get a cap neck holder lock from American Touristor, which will keep the bottle from falling out. You can get a 16 oz bottle max in this open mesh side compartment.- The padded shoulder straps are great! I've used mine on long distance walks through the terminal or further--up to about 2 miles. There is also a luggage attachment sleeve or open pocket, which permits you to attach it to a rolling carry-on, which is what I do. It is sturdy and strong. A definate must have for air travel.I can't think of any cons, other than maybe a smaller side compartment dedicated to a cell phone or keys would be great, but that is perfection, which is 5 plus stars. In my opinion this is the best bag due to its functionality and ruggedness. Additionally, the current price is a bargain--$29. I originally bought one, liked it so much, I bought another one for the future, then purchased another one today as a gift. A great product!

Loved the bag for the first few trips - then it started to fall apart.
I purchased my Targus Checkpoint Backpack in February 2012.I love how easy it is to travel. Security checkpoints are easy since I don't have to take the laptop out of the pack. For the price, it's a good backpack for a while...5 months into my use the bag is coming undone. The base of the shoulder straps are beginning to tear away from the main bag and fabric along the shoulder padded area is fraying to a point where it may soon break. And, the liner of the inside of the small front pocket has torn so anything you put in there drops into the lining to to bottom of the pack. So much for quick access to you cards or MiFi card. Plan to dig it out if you use that pocket. So, I hear the quality may have improved since I made the purchase. Hope Targus will honor the warranty and replace the bag. If they do, I'll be sure to post my satisfaction.JonUPDATE REVIEW - October 18, 2012 Targus took care of me on this. I submitted my Amazon receipt with pictures of the backpack falling apart. They provided me an RMA number to include in the box when I returned the bag for replacement. My new replacement bag arrived 10 days later. The product has been updated with better stitching and appears to be made of higher quality material.
