Cast Iron Ash Can with Handle for Kamado Joe Junior Grill, High Temperature Resistance Heavy Cast Iron Charcoal Ash Collector for Kamado Joe JR Accessories

I ordered this from Amazon UK, took 2 1/2 weeks to arrive. It's sturdy for sure. To me two things make it less useful than I'd imagined.First, the base is thick, so good for durability, but it significantly restricts the airflow through the bottom vent, meaning I've found the Joe Jr. is slower to heat even with the vent fully open.Second, and to me the aspect which makes it almost useless -, the upper lip of cast iron the can sits above the middle edge of the firebox, and is far narrower. Meaning some of the ash goes in the can, but much of it sits out on the sides of the firebox, and because of the lip, doesn't fall into the can. Even though I use a Joe Jr charcoal basket I'd say it's only about half of the ash goes into the can. But when you try to brush the ash from the sides of the firebox into the can, much goes through the vent holes in the firebox and ends up on the floor of the Joe Jr. (This is due to the protruding lip on the can) Which means you have to take out the firebox anyway and get that stuff out through the bottom vent as you'd do if you didn't have the can. Which defeats the purpose of the can!!!I won't return it as I've used it, but I'd definitely not recommend one of these if you think it's going to magically manage the ash collection and removal. In my experience it doesn't.

Amazing. The new, Kamado Jr. purchased at Lowes had no Ash Can or Basket...Weird

It is about 1/2 inch too high from the bottom of the fire bowl, it will definitely allow charcoal ash to drop on the sides defeating the purpose of having an ash basket.the opening is about 1/2 too high and too small to permit airflow from the bottom of the opening. I didn't try it but I am positive the lower airflow will affect the heat inside the Smoker.took almost 2 weeks to arrive, I have received things from China faster than this.good idea, very bad execution. going back

Pro: I loved that it is cast iron for the durability and that it has a handle - makes it easy to insert and remove.Con: Not a great fit for my Kamado Joe Jr. It is too tall so ash and charcoal can get around the side.Due to the height, my ash basket (that I use to hold the charcoal) hinders the grate rack from sitting flush.The bottom lip to hold ash in by the opening is too tall - will hinder and impact air flow.I have attached pictures and measurements to help reference the issues...no user reviews or pictures when I purchased. Was hoping this would work but not so. I will be returning this product. Looks like I will have to purchase the Kick Ash Can from Kick Ash Basket.
