They need to air dry in between use because of what they are made of. I have no idea why, but they always last a long time. I have always used them & they are really good.

Whats the shelf life of this stick, does it "melt" or evaporate if stored?

If it is kept dry, the shelf life is probably centuries as this is an inorganic white crystalline salt - Ammonium Alum - Ammonium aluminium sulfate - (NH4)Al(SO4)2·12H2O -- see wikipedia or other references. At normal temperatures it does not melt or evaporate. BTW, used properly a single stick can last 1-2 years of daily use -- very economical. The biggest hazard is dropping it on a hard surface which can break it.
