How is this different from a Glass casserole?

I bought it because it can be used under the broiler. Many of the glass dishes are not broiler safe.

Do the handles get hot? I want to make lasagna and don't want to burn my fingers - even with mitts on - when I take it out of the oven.

Yes the handles get hot. Don't buy this. The inside cracked from 375 degree heat in the oven the first time I used it. If you do a search or read reviews you'll see that this happens all the time.

What is the difference between the matte white and white? are they actually distinct options?

I would think that matte wouldn't have the sheen but not sure. My dish looks pretty much like the picture. A little off white with a shiny glaze. This is a great dish. You won't be disappointed.

These are made in China as are all Staub ceramics and Le Cruset for that matter.
