Methane or biogas is a colourless, odourless, flammable gas and the main constituent, 85% to 90%, of the piped natural gas that we use in our homes in the UK, Europe and the USA. Methane can be made using simple apparatus and a process known as anaerobic digestion. Anaerobic digestion is one of the most common biological procedures in nature, as the name implies, it means to carry or breakdown in the absence of air. Once you know the principles of this process it is possible to make biogas in small or large quantities from a variety of waste materials. The book describes making an anaerobic digester using an oil drum and a rubber inner tube as the gas storage vessel as well as a larger continuous digester. The book also contains diagrams, list of materials and websites for further reading. The gas produced can be used for cooking and heating and even for running a gas engine. Really good book
This is a really good book, easy to understand and has pictures to help with that. Highly recommend this if you are looking to know more or even have a go yourself.

Not great but not bad either
I agree in part with other reviews that the drawings are not very well done however, they are functional and do actually convey what the author is saying. You do have to read the text to understand the drawings though. The information presented here is very basic and will give you the foundation you need to get started with bio-gas (methane) production. Most people refer to methane gas generators as bio-gas generators now so do a search for bio-gas production or bio-gas generators to find more info and available "how to" books.

Would be a great starter book for a beginner, but for someone with any knowledge or experience , not worth the buy

Very basic, $0.99 may be a fair price...
This is a very basic book. It has three ways of building a bio-digester, interesting thing is that all the detail goes in to the simplest one, then when you need more information for the larger, potentially more complex ones there is less detail. It is also poorly written in terms of the grammar, typos and proofing. However it only costs $0.99... Did I learn something? May be, a lot can be learned on internet about the theory of bio-digester, not much can necessarily be found in relation to practical application in a domestic scale. Does this achieve it? To be honest, not really, you will want to do a bit more research before throwing yourself into this sort of project.

This book offers only basic ideas and the diagrams are in a very bad resolution. Not recommendable as a guide to anaerobic digestion in small scale.

I enjoyed this book.
This was a quick read. Given the risks involved in methane production and use, both to the individual and the environment, I hope that anyone reading this book understands those risks and experiments responsibly.
