May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.
This li'll guy is not so much a flashlight as it is a substitute for a candle. It throws as much light as a couple of good-quality dinner-table candles. And like a candle flame, it shines in all directions at once. There's not much benefit in pointing it in any particular direction. I've got a few of them. I only keep them for backup because my EDC light is brighter, smaller, and USB rechargeable; but these SplashFlash lights are as weather-proof and as indestructible as anyone could hope for. Indoors or in a tent, they're plenty bright enough for most tasks. I've never tried to use one for following an unfamiliar trail in the darkness. I imagine that could be a challenge, but when all of your other lights have gone out... [use your imagination here!] ------------------- P.S., I've seen some comments saying that a SplashFlash light is not waterproof when it's turned off, because you turn it off by partly unscrewing the head. Those commenters do not understand how the o-ring seal works. The seal is fully waterproof as soon as the O-ring on the body disappears completely inside the head. That happens (on mine, anyway) a full turn and a half of the body before the light comes on.

Great handy and reliable light for nightly dog walks
Super handy for walking my dog at night! Second one I've bought for my extra leash. Appreciate that the battery doesn't engage until you twist it on so I very rarely have to worry about a dead flashlight or recharging. Has handled plenty of drops being on a dog leash:) UPDATE: Had some trouble getting the light to turn on months after I purchased so I reached out to their customer service and they were excellent!

Useful Light, Great for Night Dog-Walking, With Some Limitations;
I picked up two of these SplashFlash lights to add to my "bug-out" box. I figured that a couple of strobe lights for emergency signaling situations could prove useful. I'm pleased with the product, with a few caveats. The Splashflash consists of a very small cylindrical device, roughly 2.75" in height. The bottom half of the device consists of a bright orange rubberized grip (with a carabiner attached to the bottom, for attaching a lanyard), while the top half of the device consists of a grey plastic screw-cap with a single LED light mounted on top, underneath a protective plastic globe. The device uses a single "AAA" battery (included). To insert the battery, you unscrew the cap, insert the battery, and screw the cap back on. Here is where the device is foolproof: fully screwing the cap closed activates the light. To cease activation, you unscrew the cap slightly, which separates the battery from the contact plate. Each activation of the light alternates between an SOS strobe flash, and, an always-on light. So, the simplicity of the device is praiseworthy. The 25-lumen LED outputs a decent amount of light, in a 360-degree diffusion. So, this is an area light, not a concentrated flashlight beam. This would be a useful device for, say, cyclists riding at night, who wanted to attach the SplashFlash to the back of their bike seat, or, a backpack, to give themselves greater visibility. Or, to carry on a keychain as a keychain light. I've also attached it to my dog's collar for night walks, to give him (and me) greater visibility to passing drivers. In this role, the Splashflash is stellar. That said, the device has a couple of practical limitations. First off, to leave the light off, the cap has to be left slightly unscrewed, which means that the device is not completely sealed against water permeation. There is a black rubber "O" ring which creates a tight seal, but, the seal is only achieved by fully screwing the cap closed (meaning that the light is activated). So, there is no way to have the light turned off and to also have the SplashFlash fully sealed against the elements. Secondly, I would not advise using this device as a dedicated marine (or land) strobe light for emergency signaling in a truly dire life and death situation. It might be useful in that role in a pinch, and, it's certainly better than nothing, but, the SplashFlash simply can't take the place of a larger, brighter strobe light that has greater visibility, and, which is larger and easier to grip in the hand. And, in fairness, I don't think that UST intends the SplashFlash to be marketed or used as a USCG or SOLAS-compliant signaling device. Rival company ACR makes a couple of excellent, larger strobe lights that would be more appropriate for this purpose: ACR Firefly Pro Waterbug (water activation + manual activation) http://www.amazon.com/ACR-Firefly-Waterbug-Strb-3971-3/dp/B00KC68SVA/ref=aag_m_pw_dp?ie=UTF8&m=A2CK5NG72UVSTT ACR Firefly pro SOLAS (manual activation only) http://www.amazon.com/ACR-Firefly-Strobe-Light-3970-3/dp/B00KC5PPMQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1406828013&sr=1-1&keywords=acr+firefly+pro In closing, note that UST sells the SplashFlash in a variety of different colors, and, Amazon.com sells them at wildly different prices. I suggest searching for the cheapest-priced model. I paid $5.78 each for my lights and, honestly, I wouldn't pay more than $7.50 for this light; anything higher is entering rip-off territory.

Really glad I bought it - it’s tiny, long-lasting, works great!
OMG this was a lifesaver! I bought it as a safety light for my kayak on the river at night, but went camping and forgot it was in my bag until I got there and realized it was my only flashlight. This got me through five days of camping, miles of trekking every night through pitch black woods, with no diminishment in the light over that time period whatsoever! I also used it as a lantern in my hammock at night. It’s a nice neutral white light and so tiny, that I clipped it on my waist pack zipper so I couldn’t lose it. Really helpful especially when using the slit trench ;) It turned out to be almost perfect, especially since it was rainy and I didn’t have to worry about it getting wet. The only things I wished was that I could point it just down sometimes so I don’t blind people, and apply a red filter to keep my night vision - will plan to tape a red film on the one I will keep in my camping bag. But for the price and a variety of purposes it was a fantastic purchase. Very easy to get to flash/stop flashing too - just turn it off and back on again by twisting the cap. For one small battery it sure goes the distance. I can’t wait to use it on the river!

Don't trust the included carabiner!
I bought this as a safety light for my life jacket. The light seems to work fine, and seemed to work even after getting wet. However, the included carabiner is junk. Mine broke during the first trip using it, and now my light is gone forever. Very disappointing. Don't trust the included carabiner!

Makes a great dog light!
I bought this little light for my dog to clip to his collar for visibility when I let him off the lead to run in the evenings. It works a charm for that purpose, and I can tell you that if it stands up to what my 65 pound beast of wagging tail and very little brain can dish out, which it does, that I feel pretty confident it will stand up to any reasonable use. The battery life estimates seem to be conservative. The original battery that came with this light exceeded the rated run time by at least a few hours based on being on for a couple of hours a night for four nights before it showed any sign of dimming at all. All in all, for the price and what it is, couldn't be happier. On edit (2/23/2015) As far as battery life, I'll go ahead and double down on what I said above, The original battery that came with this light now has at least ten hours of on time and is still going. It has in fact dimmed a bit, but the light output is still solidly in the range of useful, and for my dog-light purposes, perfect.

Bright, inexpensive, works great
Cheap, bright, water resistant. Works fine as a kayaking navigational light.

As described except for the color
I received a blue one instead of black. I'm liking it though, so I'm keeping it. Great value and looks like it can survive my beach camping and water sports.
