THIS DASHCAM IS PERFECT IN NEARLY EVERY WAY!
TL;DR - Please skip to ‘Pros and Cons’ if you only want the details. Let me start by saying that I spent almost two months searching for the perfect dash cam solution for my car. We recently had our first child, and I was determined in every way to make sure that she is as safe as she can be whenever we are on the roadways. Twice a week, I also have to commute 70 miles each way, which is about 90% interstate, and 10% city driving. After encountering two road rage incidents on the same day, I finally decided had enough. If something goes down, I want proof of the person(s) at fault. I’ve likely read every review and studied every device that Amazon sells, including Wolfbox and Pormido. I eventually ended up on r/dashcam on Reddit, which is where I finally struck gold. Reddit always cuts through the noise for me, and this time was no different. The overwhelming choice there for brand is Viofo. They claim that Viofo dash cams excel in every way, and so far, that has been my experience. Installation: The install is about as straightforward as it gets. You need to run the wire to any cameras that you want, except for the main camera, which is built into the main unit. If you only want a single camera facing ahead, there is no wiring necessary, unless you plan on hardwiring the unit to your car’s 12V system. If you intend to utilize ‘Parking Mode’, you will need to have access to both a constant +12V and an accessory +12V, and a ground/earth. I opted for the latter, as I would like my car to be under surveillance at all times. If you opt for only ‘Driving Mode’, it will be an even simpler install, but that will not allow you to record while away from the vehicle. I planned out my route for the rear camera, and ran the single USB-C to USB-C cable, using the provided trim tool. It is very simple in most cases to tuck the wire away behind the vehicle’s interior trim paneling. The tool, although I have my own, was actually very good quality. Setup: Again, it was entirely straightforward. You power it on, go through basic setup for language choice and whatnot, and then you’ll want to enable WiFi so that you can use your phone and the Viofo app to configure the rest of the settings. This *can* be done using the physical buttons on the device, but it is MUCH easier to do on the app. There are so many wonderful options, that using the device’s GUI, although well developed, would be too much to do on a small LCD screen. Take my advice and use the Viofo App. It’s available for iOS and Android. You’ll also want to large Micro SD card to store your recordings. I started with a 16GB Samsung that I already had, but even at normal quality and bitrate settings, it filled up at just 2 hours of recording. This device does have ‘Loop Recording’, but I didn’t choose to enable it. I am fine with deleting the recordings as it fills, as I would rather be sure to have the footage if I discover later that I captured an incident that I didn’t notice right away. Loop Recordings are limited to 10 minutes in length, and that just isn’t enough for me. After operating to the 256GB memory card, I was then able to increase the quality and bitrate setting to the maximum of 2K for the front and rear cameras, and still have plenty of space. I can record about 12 hours without having to delete anything. Image Quality: I immediately tested this device at night by driving around my city and county at 11PM. I wanted to try to capture license plates because, whenever I’m driving, I always have to try to memorize the license plate if something happens, and that is not always possible. When I returned home and checked the footage, I discovered that the STARVIS 2 lenses actually made the possible at night! If you capture a license plate of any car within 10’ or so of yours, you will be able to read the plates using the video footage. Of course, with the audio recording, if you can read it aloud, it will capture your voice in the recording. I am now in the habit of reading the plates aloud for that exact purpose. There was minimal to no glare from either camera, although I do think that I will be ordering the additional lenses for my front camera, as I have a very bright display in the car that is very visible in the recordings. I suppose that is the price you pay for having exceptional Sony Starvis 2 lenses- you WILL capture EVERYTHING. As far as just overall video quality, the 2K and 1080P quality images are exactly as they should be, which is crisp and free of imperfection. These Sony Starvis 2 lenses are something you just have to experience for yourself to understand. Knowing what I know now, I would never use a dash camera without them. Temperatures: The one thing I was most concerned about when I started researching these devices was the sheer amount of failure from the elements. The device you choose will be subjected to extreme heat and cold, and the device you choose absolutely MUST have protections in place for this. Luckily, Viofo planned for this and they use special capacitors and other electrical components inside to ensure that your device doesn’t fail as a result of direct sunlight, freezing and condensation, and overall interior and exterior cabin temps. This was actually my biggest factor in deciding on which brand to choose from. The fact that Viofo not only considered this, but placed extra special care and attention to it, was the ultimate deciding factor for me purchase it. I have already connected with their customer service, and they have been extremely helpful in answering all my questions. I haven’t had any issues, but I wanted to reach out to be sure that I could contact someone if I needed to. Value for money: I actually waited until a Flash Sale to purchase my A229 Plus, and I managed to catch it for $169! I have literally never made a faster and more urgent purchase! You will not find ANYTHING with this kind of quality and features for that price. If you can, wait for a sale and pounce! 🐅 I have tested all the modes and everything works exactly as it should. If you have any questions about it, I would be happy to answer them. I will be monitoring this item for questions for the next couple of months or so, so if you just use Amazon’s product questions feature, I’ll see it and respond. I will also be updating this review every 3 months just to ensure that it’s working properly, and will include and issues and incidents that I encounter. PROS: • Price • Exceptional image quality • Night vision is amazing • Features • Ease of install • Durability Cons: • Doesn’t include a hardwire kit or SD Card

Reliable dash cam that proved its value
I bought this VIOFO A229 Plus during Black Friday last year, and it has worked reliably ever since. So far, I have not experienced any major problems with the camera, recording quality, or normal operation. The front and rear cameras provide clear footage, and the system has been dependable for everyday driving. There were only two occasions when the camera prompted me to format the memory card. The first time, I accepted the prompt and erased the card. The second time, I chose not to format it, and the camera still continued recording normally without any apparent issue. Other than those two prompts, the dash cam has performed consistently. Most importantly, this camera successfully recorded a traffic accident involving my vehicle. The footage clearly documented what happened and became important evidence for the insurance claim. With the video, I was able to establish the other driver’s responsibility and receive compensation from their insurance company. That experience alone made the purchase worthwhile. Overall, I am very satisfied with this dash cam. It has been stable, reliable, and genuinely useful when I needed it most. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a dependable front-and-rear dash camera.

It's the best DASHCAM but....
I'm going to give it a 4 star only because i had to buy more items to buy with it after the perchance. The dashcam itself is amazing not going to lie, but i had to order so many other components with it, the SD card, the hardwire kit, extension cord for the rear camera because i have an SUV, 🤦♂️ mind you I bought this on sale for $169 it was one of those lightning deals but ended up spending even more Instation was easy, it connects fairly well with phones to see the clips, it constantly records videos and deletes it by itself, the camera itself is so good during the day and night, I'm easily able to see the cars make, model and I'm able to see the licence plates too I did a lot of research before buying a dashcam for my wife, and this was by far one of the best in the market and after i installed this in my wife's car i can see why, I'll definitely buy viofo dashcam again just because of the quality of the videos and now I know what to expect when I order this in the future

Great Dash and rear Cam.
It is a great Dash and rear Cam. Works perfectly and it has a good wide view in both cameras, good video quality even at night in dark places. I can say it worths the money we pay for it. Quick tip, buy the miniSSD from the same brand (VIOFO), so you can make sure it will not fail on your recordings.

Viofo a229 plus - it’s great!
I’ve owned this product for 30 days now and it has been a nice addition to my vehicle. It was pretty easy to install. All required tools are in the box. Running the wires down the A-Pillar and under the dashboard was the only tricky part. If you do it yourself and aren’t 100% sure how to tuck the wires between the dashboard and the windshield when you reach that crevice. Otherwise, everything is else tucks out of sight. There are extra pieces if you should require more sticky tape or electrostatic sheets. The camera quality is what I was looking for. The app connects to its own WiFi on the unit which is easy enough to view on your phone or you can simply remove the front camera from its attached gps dock and bring it inside to access the sd card “sold separately. Make sure to get the recommended type of sd as there are different types and you’ll need one that will function with this unit since it constantly rewrites over itself. “ write speed of at least Class 10 or U1. However, if your dash cam records in 4K resolution, it is best to choose a card with a write speed of U3” (from Viofo’s website - https://support.viofo.com/support/solutions/articles/19000133471-what-memory-card-is-recommended-for-a-viofo-dashcam-) There is a Viofo Industrial sdcard and a Sandisk Max Endurance that the site recommends. There are other ones that look similar but are not recommended by Viofo. The rear camera does potentially require a bit of extra adhesive in order to stay on the rear glass. I placed Velcro strips on the glue part of the rear camera and Velcro’d the base of the rear camera to the Velcro strip placed on the on the top of the rear window. The electrostatic sheet worked great on the front windshield but did fall off in cold weather only on the back window. Since using the Velcro strip, it has been sticking ever since. I haven’t had any negative glitches or tricky issues with the unit since using it daily. I thought I’d let everyone know that this has been a positive experience.

So good I bought another
I now have 2 of the A229 dash cams. These are simple to install if you are mechanically inclined. Comes with a nice trim tool to get the trim loose enough to tuck wiring out of sight. I ended up working in a 12v female power outlet so I could use the power plug without the hard wiring kit. The kit forces the parking mode to be on, and my vehicles can sit for extended periods. Didn't want the battery to run low. Add a 256G mini SD card and you have HIGH quality front AND read video for a few days stored! Most other card I have tried the video quality is poor. These are very clear and have GPS coordinates and speed stamped into the video in case you need to prove anything. Highly recommend. Customer service is very responsive and helpful. Had ine rear camera that would disconnect and connect again immediately. Would not record while this happened and it would happen several times in a row. Customer service sent new firmware and instructions o. How to install it. When that did not resolve the issue, they sent a new rear camera AND rear cable. This resolved the problem. It seems they stand behind their products.

Great package overall. Will not disappoint!
Has everything you will need in my opinion. It functions as it is supposed to, but did run into that beeping/slow card error. With this error I advise to contact Viofo and tell them the error and ask for a different firmware made for slower cards. I am not sure if it would've worked, but in my case I just reformatted it 3 times and it somehow helped and haven't gotten that error since, with a Sandisk max endurance card. With that aside, the camera quality is exceptional and all most would need to be honest. I almost went with 4k, but realistically you get all you need from a 2k camera. I did not hard wire it so I'm not sure as far as that goes, but if you know how I expect it to run well. I have no problems connecting to the wifi of the camera and extracting videos. It does take a bit of time to do so, so beware. For this reason I set it to capture 2mins every loop (going to be around 200+mbs of storage). If I need more I will just grab more video from the storage, no problem. I will also suggest if you put it just to the left of your mirror, make sure you put it far enough away or low enough so you can access the SD card or you will hate yourself for not doing so at some point. For example, if you need to install new firmware or your card fails, you will need to access that port. An even bigger reason for wanting to do that is because this 3M adhesive is ridiculously strong. When putting it on I needed to remove it and I negligently took it off and I had to remove the adhesive from the camera, which took 30+minutes of alcohol scrubbing. Luckily they pack an extra 3M adhesive, which saved some frustrations. Very easy to install the wires in your car (even SUV). Once you get used to how much pressure to apply on getting the wires to fit behind the airbag slots and other plastic areas, it moves very quickly. I would say it took roughly 25minutes to get the wires snug where I wanted them. The audio is also very good along with the video quality and I honestly have nothing bad to say about those two things. They perform with ease and exceed expectations in that manner. I have owned it for a couple months with no other flaws, besides that card speed error. It feels like a very solid package overall and would recommend it for anyone who constantly runs into negligent reckless A-holes on the road. *Would have uploaded a video of it's performance, but Amazon degrades the upload quality, so no point.*

AMAZING DASH CAM! App UI can use some work.
It has definitely given me peace of mind. In the case that you’re in an accident (especially one that wasn’t your fault) it’s great to have evidence. The unit is small and compact, and does not impact my view at all. The setup was extremely easy, I even was able to hardwire it in my local autozone parking like after buying some add-a-fuses with 0 experience and ChatGPT :). The quality of the video is pretty good. I’m not going to say amazing. However, from my research it’s some of the best quality in its class. Most of the time at highway speeds it’s incredibly difficulty to read a license plate unless I was very close. The picture quality did disappoint me slightly, I guess I thought 2K would have slightly more clarity.. It is really difficult to read plates in my experience, but then again that’s not its purpose. I’m assuming id have to upgrade to the 4K 60 fps cam for better plate readability… but it captures videos super well and has not failed me. The night vision is superb. It works extremely well. Like I said, I just wish that maybe the license plates were a bit easier to read, but I guess I’d have to upgrade to the 4K camera for that ! I also the app UI was a little bit more user friendly. It’s just outdated and a bit slow. It doesn’t always show my clips and I find my self reconnecting a few times to the app. There’s also 2 apps on the App Store which I came to find out one is the updated app and the other one is no longer receiving updates which is confusing. I just think the app could be better as well overall.

A good an cheap dash cam
This dash cam does the job well. High quality video recordings without being ridicuously expensive. Sometimes I get a 'slow card' warning for a SD card that is meant to be supported, but otherwise works flawlessly.

Best Dashcam in India
I’ve been using the Viofo A229 Plus for a while now, and I’m extremely impressed. The video quality is crystal clear both during the day and at night, capturing even small details like license plates with ease. The dual-channel setup works flawlessly, giving me complete front and rear coverage for peace of mind on the road. Setup was simple, the app is user-friendly, and the build quality feels very premium. I especially appreciate the advanced features like parking mode and GPS logging, which make it a true all-in-one solution. The voice notifications are also a great touch, letting me know the camera is working properly without needing to check manually. Overall, this dash cam offers outstanding value for money with performance that rivals much more expensive models. Highly recommended for anyone who wants reliable protection and top-notch video quality!

Great quality
Easy to install and great quality videos. App could be better though. I couldn’t install the rear camera as it won’t be easily installed on an SUV. Wish they had an option without the rear camera

Great, but...
Great product and the only complaint is that the wifi is a bit unstable and sometimes it can be a little tricky to get the phone to connect and download videos from the dashcam.
