Korg KDM-3 Digital Metronome w/ Memory Backup and Auto Power-Off Function - Black

I love this metronome -- it does everything you could want and it's plenty loud. My only beef is that they moved the light to the top of the metronome, so if you put it on your stand or on a table, you don't see the light flashing as well as it did on the previous models. This isn't too bad a problem for me because I have a music stand with a deep shelf, so I can lay them metronome on its side with the light facing me. But I would have preferred the light to be in front. On the plus side, the metronome now turns off on its own if you forget and leave it on. (Also, some people had problems turning the dial to change the tempos: I'm not sure why this would be a problem--it seemed fine to me. Maybe they had really big fingers or calluses?)

I received this 7/19/2018 to add to my other Korg KDM-2 which I bought in September 2010. Using it the first time I like this Metronome as it is simple to use, you don't really need to read the directions it is that simple to use.It is a good quality With batteries the Korg KDM-2 weights 196 grams, 6.9oz and the KDM-3 is 160 grams 5.65oz which really doesn't make any difference. KDM-3 is 4 3/8" high and 2 1/8" wide.It is plenty loud enough for general use. The face does not light up. The batteries are a little hard to remove but you can get them out. It is a little smaller than what I thought it was going to be. No hissing noises. NOTE: Just as with the KDM-2 the KDM-3 will not work if you use Duracell Quantum aaa batteries. For some reason, they just won't work. I don't know what other ones won't either. I wonder how many people put new batteries in their Korg and it would not work so they threw it out? I just about did that. The only thing so far that I don't care for is the flashing light on top. I use mine with just the light flashing at times and the light is not as big, lower profile, as the one on the KDM-2 but it still usable. Update: 08/21/2022 I am still using this and it is working as it should and I still like this metronome. I still give it a five star rating.

I only post reviews if a product is terrible or if it is really excellent. This metronome is perfect. I have purchased several others over the years, including a small digital one recently that makes the most annoying beep sound. I have a Seiko metronome that makes a nice click sound, but the numbers on the dial are difficult to read, and the on-off switch is very small and awkward to use. It means that you pretty much leave the metronome going between practice songs, clicking away, driving you crazy. The Korg KDM-3 is well-designed in every way. You turn it on in standby mode with a little button on the side, and then you can make all your adjustments. One large button on top makes it start keeping time, and you touch that button again to stop it. The light that flashes at the set tempo is inside that large button, which makes it easy to click it off in a darkened room. The digital readout on the front is large and easy to read, and yet the metronome is not large overall. It is about half the size of an old wood wind-up metronome. There is a choice of different click sounds, excellent volume range, and tempo adjustment by single numbers instead of larger steps. This metronome is pricey compared to many others, but it is an excellent example of how you usually do get what you pay for. I recommend it without reservations. It is the perfect metronome.

Looks nice, but it did not include the 4 batteries that the product description said would be included. Not a huge deal, but the writeup said they were included. Korg lost one star on the review because of that. The clicks (various sounds) are plenty loud enough for me to hear over my euphonium playing. Which is the main reason I purchased this metronome. I could not hear the metronome that I had when I played loud passages on my euphonium. If you turn off the sound (turn the volume completely down), you can use the metronome by looking at the flashing lights. And you can select the time signature of the music (i.e., 2/4, 6/8, 4/4 etc.). On the downbeat of the measure a red light flashes and on the other beats in the measure a green light flashes. That is pretty useful with the sound off. It is pretty small. I, too, expected it to be larger when I first read about the product, but the reviews told me to be prepared for a small sized metronome. The size is not really a problem for me. The buttons and controls are easy to get to and engage, so size isn't an issue. And being small, you can take this along with you in smaller sized cases if you need to. So far, after using this metronome for a few weeks, I like it a lot. It serves the purpose I bought it for perfectly.

I wanted something portable and easy to use with my music books. It needed the metronome to be loud for me to hear it over the accordion. The visuals and sound are great. My timing still stinks, but I have found where my mistakes are and can focus on getting more precise. I am very happy with the quality and have gone through a set of batteries! Played everyday for a couple of weeks before they needed changing (20 to 30 minute sessions). The different sounds are great, but I find myself using the drum stick clack the most. Great product!

This is a great metronome and does everything that it claims that it does. There is no problem with batteries as a previous reviewer mentioned. There is also no hiss as other previous reviewers mentioned. I really wish people would be truthful in their reviews. My guess is that these bad reviews are competitors ... which is really sad and also infuriating. It really makes it difficult for the rest of us to accurately determine whether a product is great or not. Korg has made a great product here that does everything that it is supposed to do. I would 100% recommend this product to anyone looking for a metronome. It has several different beat option, several different sound options, and best of all it is just a metronome! It doesn't have a built in tuner to complicate the screen and make the controls 100 times more difficult. It just does what it was made for. I don't work for Korg nor have I ever purchased one of their products. I just want people to know that I actually purchased this product, it is great, and the bad reviews for this product are completely and totally false. But a really good one, it does everything I need it to. My main concern was the volume level (As I usually study with headphones) but that was not an issue. I like the different 'voices' you can use to keep time, whether you're a strings player (like me!) or a vocalist this guy has an application for your practice time. My only gripes are that I do wish the device had more weight to it. I plan to add a makeshift weight to the bottom to give it a little more support. As well, I'm sure many cannot agree with the price point. I was also weary but feel this little guy is worth my money.

Like the choice of sounds, the rotary speed dial and choices. It's loud enough to hear when playing an instrument. Does not come with batteries.

Superó mis expectativas, es un metrónomo de uso muy sencillo el volumen es ajustable y se escucha perfectamente. Es más pequeño de lo que parece en fotos, pero los diales y los botones se manejan cómodamente, es una cucada, me hubiera gustado poder elegir más colores, aunque el color negro esta bien, temía que no fuera lo suficientemente potente con el volumen, por que en ocasiones toco con auriculares y aún así se oye perfectamente. Se puede ajustar el tempo de 30-252 tiempos por minuto, el compás de cero a nueve tiempos, dorsillos, tresillos, tresillos sin el tiempo central, cuatrillos, cuatrillos sin los tiempos centrales, clave de son (2-3)(3-2), clave de rumba (2-3)(3-2) y en sus especificaciones consta una exactitud de tempo de más o menos un 0,2%. Tiene 8 sonidos diferentes, el clásico sonido mecánico, pulso, cencerro, claves, palmadas, baquetas, aro de caja y mi favorito que es una voz femenina que va contando el número de compás. El último sonido me resulta muy útil ya que estoy aún verde con el solfeo y ayuda bastante el despreocuparse de llevar la cuenta cuando tocas notas largas. Trae un modo de afinación que emite un sonido de referencia o un bip continuo para afinar el instrumento, aunque mi piano es digital, y no lo uso. Trae además un temporizador ajustable que permite que se apague pasado un tiempo ajustable de un minuto a dos horas. Incorpora además una salida de auriculares por si necesitas usarlo sin molestar a los que te rodean. Funciona con cuatro pilas del tipo AAA, que según el manual tienen una duración aproximada de 120h, yo lo estoy usando desde el 25 de febrero una media de una a dos horas al día y de momento perfecto no he necesitado cambiarlas todavía.

Summary: I wanted some of the features of a digital metronome (subdivisions, adjustable volume, etc) but cannot stand the digital beeping noise that all those I've come across tend to have. This has several mechanical type 'clicks'. Whichever finish you go for, this is a lot to spend for a digital metronome that isn't a super sophisticated drummer style gadget which is programmable. The limited edition brown wood effect version is more. That said, I am glad I got the wood-look one as it's very pleasant on the eye and has a more natural, organic vibe to it. As other reviewers have said, it's significantly smaller than you might expect from looking at it. Please check the dimensions to be sure it's suitable for you. For me, the small size is great ... I'm not after furniture. Volume: adjustable from very quiet to quite loud - perfect for my home practice needs Design: very clearly laid out controls which (to me) need no explanation. Ease of use: - tempo knob (the large knob on the front) is great for quickly adjusting tempo - tab tempo (left, smaller button on top) - fantastic for immediately setting by tapping - lights - the larger button on top is the start/stop button, and lights 'red' for each first beat, and green for subdivision beats... useful as a visual aid and/or if wanting a visual tempo aid with no audible volume - sub-menu's and multi-purpose controls: thank goodness each button has just one function. It's a nice reprieve from so many bits of electronic kit with multiple settings and menu's. Conclusions: for someone wanting the sound preference of a 'mechanical' metronome, with some of the features and advantages of digital ones, where all functions/adjustments are immediately 'to hand', this is a superb bit of kit.

Ottimo metronomo digitale, molto carino esteticamente e si intona perfettamente con un pianoforte acustico o digitale nero. Il migliore in commercio per questa fascia di prezzo. Ha tutte le ritmiche indispensabili e piu' voci compresa quella numerica (one-two-three-four,etc,) importante se si solfeggia o si vuole assimilare meglio il ritmo di un pezzo al pianoforte. La voce meccanica e' uguale a quella di un metronomo classico con la possibilita' in piu' di regolare il volume che di solito e' fastidioso in quello meccanico. Per video e immagini consiglio di vedere Youtube. Assolutamente consigliato!
