Solid and functional
I had a gauge which was never changed for 30yrs and the floatation device had heavy oil residue on it and the lifting device was damage so that prevented it from giving me accurate oil tank readings. I could have bought another one for like $40-$50 but I figured instead of having to change it again in a couple of years I can just use this smart reader. I removed the old gauge and installed this very easily just screw it in. Followed the instructions from the manual to connect it to my wifi and they also have a customer service number on there. The app is clear and functional. After a couple of minutes the sensor actually could tell how many gallons were in the tank. It also gives you how many gallons you go through a day and let’s you send alerts via email and text. I just got my tank filled minutes ago then installed the sensor. I have a 275 gallon vertical tank, they even have tank setups within the app so you can see which kind of tank you have. When I looked the tank wasn’t filled to the top from being previously empty. So I worried this smart sensor wouldn’t get an accurate reading. Checked my bill they filled 233 gallons. At first sensor just said tank was full. Then after about an hour I checked the app the sensor actually figured out the right amount of gallons in the tank at 233.75 gallons. I put in the app that I had a 275 gallon tank so this was impressive. It doesn’t ask if you just had a fill or whatever so it actually read how full my tank was. I installed the Alexa skill so now I just tell Alexa to ask Smart Guage if my oil needs to be filled. Alexa replies with the amount saying no that my tank is full. It’ll be nice to ask Alexa when to fill my tank. Or how full my tank is if it’s at 1/4 full which is also an Alexa feature. As far as battery life goes they clearly state that the more you have the sensor check in and upload data the more you can kill the battery so if you have it uploading data to the app/wifi 20 times a day yeah you can lose the charge. I don’t mind replacing the battery I just have it set to a reasonable amount of check ins. I have smart sensors for lights all over my home and smart locks so it’s not too bad changing out batteries once a year. It lets you know when batteries are low. But yeah. This device is great for what it does. Now I can monitor usage and save $$ on oil deliveries since I’m not on auto-fill and I’m not contracted at a certain price which is great. I also have the nest learning thermostats so we live comfortably heat wise and I save hundreds of dollars a year. Win win

Setup was a little frustrating
First - USPS is horrible, left the package out in the snow at the end of my long driveway, thankfully Amazon notified me of the delivery. This device is awesome. Not only does it read the tank it gives approximates of daily, weekly and monthly use it tells you the expected days left. There is a usage graph as well. I did have an issue with setup, it simply would not connect to my Asus router. I called tech support and they were super helpful as well as being very patient. In the end it needed to be connected via a WiFi extender that I had laying around which is what they told me to try! It had nothing to do with bad WiFI coverage it just would not connect and report to my router. With these outrageous oil prices it is very helpful to get accurate readings whenever i want, highly recommend!

i would not buy again
bought this DUO smart gauge sept 24 , (2-330 tanks in basement) it connected to wifi well and kept the connection ,it worked well all winter but when oil level got down to 4.5 inches it showed oscillations in usage.i stuck the tank and it showed 4.5 inches which according to a table is 20 gal/tank so i had 40 gallons.the smart gauge said i have 126.8 gallonsi called for oil and filled to the whistle it took 560 gallons, so 560 + 40 =600so smart gauge is off by 86 gallonsi called smart gauge support, hunter said there might be sludge in the bottom of the tank that throws off the reading.i could not get a different unit to try. i was willing to help them figure out why the unit was reading incorrectly but they don't care since they already got your money.so if your ok with being off by 86 gallons, buy one.

Excellent way to monitor home heating oil level
I have an above ground 275 gallon home heating oil tank on the side of my house. Not trusting the float gauge I would tap the side of the tank to get an idea of the level. I had always wanted to get an oil level sensor and gave the Smart Oil Gauge Duo a shot. I’ve had it installed for 1 year and 5 months at the time of this review so have a good amount of time with it.I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this oil level gauge. Keep in mind you do not get measurements in real time. The sensor takes a measurement every hour and stores it in its memory. The sensor then uploads the reading based on the frequency you set in the app. In my case I selected 6 hour increments. Essentially every 6 hours the app shows the previous 6 hours.Installation of the gauge was no problem. Simple plumbing connections, just make sure you use a pipe tape or sealant that is compatible with fuel oil.Once installed everything was straightforward. You can see the oil level in a bar chart, over the last day/week/month/year and the consumption over those same intervals. The app is ok but you can only see the data in the default time scale, can’t zoom in or customize the display.I let the oil burner run out of oil to figure out how many gallons of oil was remaining in the tank at “empty”. I then added 5 gallons of diesel to get by until the home heating oil was delivered. Smart Oil detected the fill up and thought I got 202.1 gallons, the actual delivery was 202.7 gallons. Couldn’t have asked for better accuracy. One thing is that my tank is in direct sunlight. As the tank heats up the level artificially changes (only by a gallon or so) but the nightly readings have been correct.Attached are a few screenshots of the app. It’s nice that you can see the oil tank level over the year and see the consumption over the winter vs summer. The app also estimates how long until the tank reaches 1/4 and 1/8 so you have an idea of how long before you need to get an oil delivery. You can also set up alerts and reminders so you never run out.Overall this gauge is great and would highly recommend it to anyone with an oil tank.
