This can opener is a replacement for one that I gave to a friend. The can opener is easy to use and works extremely well. The best part is that it makes a smooth can cut that does not risk cutting anyone when touching the lid or the can. The safety aspect is super valuable on its own. The grip is good and is not too small or too big and it has been great for me for years now. I actually think its more durable than my KitchenAid can opener that no longer works! Also, if you like red, its a very nice shade. :)

This is a replacement for the same one I had for years but was worn out. I love this can opener. Works exactly as it says it does. No sharp edges. Highly recommend.

I have used other products from Kuhn Rikon in the past. Particularly pressure cookers, so I might be biased. I have also used several of this type of 'safety' or 'magic' can openers in the past. From my perspective, this is the best and easiest to use can opener that I have ever used or owned, and I am now almost 70, so that's a lot of can openers. Unlike some other openers of this type, it is especially easy to position and engage on the cans. The previous opener that this one replaced (a British one that resembles the Amazon Basics Safe Cut in appearance) was designed to be simplified, but was virtually impossible to position. Not so, this one. Just as the instructions explain, simply align the two semi-circular 'aiming' cutouts on the body and turn the knob about half a turn to engage and lock it on the can. It's really that simple and easy. After that, I find it easier to hold the knob in place and then move the longer handle to rotate round the rest of the can. Once a lack of resistance is felt, the lid has been separated from the can and a half-turn anti-clockwise of the knob releases the opener from the can and lid (which remains in place). The integrated 'pincher' does actually work to fully detach the separated lid from the can. Because of the way these types of opener operate, once the lid has been separated from the can, a vacuum exists within the can, particular if maintained by liquid within the can. This is not a major deal, but often means that it doesn't detach easily by itself. A fingernail, knife etc will work too, but with the aforementioned pincher, it's a breeze to accomplish without getting any liquid on your hands. As others have attested, this type of opener leaves a replaceable lid to the can without leaving any jagged edges. If you have kids or are worried about cutting yourself (like I am), you should probably use one of this type of opener, even if not this specific one. The only thing that I'm not so sure of is the hook for cans that come with ring-pull lids. I tried it only once (on a can of sardines) and it simply pulled the ring-pull out of the lid without removing any of it from the can. As I said, I love this can opener and would certainly recommend it to anyone. I expect it to last for a long time, but if it ever wears out, I would certainly buy another one without hesitation. This is the can opener everyone should have. I get a clean, not sharp opening every time. I tried a cheaper competitor on here, it broke within a year. This one has been going for years, and I've been cooking more. The little jaws to lift the lid are a handy addition. To be honest, I've never used the ring pull, so I can't vouch for how this would work with pull-top cans.

I love this little gadget! I only gave it 4 stars because the same item I purchased years ago was better quality. I would give it 4.5 if I could. I don’t know why they wouldn’t keep the same or improve it rather than make it slightly cheaper. I still love it but wish it was just like the original. Nothing was wrong with my first one, other than my son needed a recommendation on a good handheld can opener so my partner quickly jumped in with “you can have ours”! 🙄 I love that it has a little “grabber” on the side of it to lift the lid off the can after you have cut the seal around the can. So much easier than trying to use your fingers! If you’re looking for a handheld can opener, this is an excellent choice!

After spending a lot of money on many can openers that would just bend, skip, and not work this was the first one to work perfectly. This can opener works on all of our cans no matter the size. It worked so well the first time that we thought we were using it wrong. When we were first testing the can opener we went around the can once but weren’t sure if it actually opened. So my I went around again and still weren’t sure it actually opened so just to try it we used the “claw” to grip the lid and it just popped right off. So we tried another can but this time we only went around once to see if we just didn’t know the first can was opened the first pass. The second can after just one rotation easily peeled off with no effort at all. When you use the cutter it leaves the can lid barely attached but also somewhat still sealed. The little claw grabber always you to easily grab the lip of a can and like a sticker peel off the lid leaving little to no sharp burr on both the can or lid. The grip is comfortable along with the turn handle. We have opened about a hundred cans at this point and this can opener is still sharp and performs just as good as the day we bought it. Overall this product is very well designed and durable and most importantly just works exactly like you would expect a can opener to work.

The price seems like a lot for a can opener....right? Sure....but...THIS can opener is the best can opener ever. No sharp edges. Lids come off easily. Works *every* time. I've had mine for 7 years, and it's still going strong. I'm about to buy another for a friend. That's how good it is.

This opener is the best!! I have given two as gifts and the recipients love it to!! It's easy to use, placement is simple, it cranks very smoothly, when it's done, it's easy to remove the can lid with the teeth on the opener. I have been using my for 4 years and it is great. This German made opener is very durable and makes no noise. You can't go wrong with this opener.
