NeoLucida Deluxe Kit - A modern camera lucida drawing tool kit

This is truly amazing. A game changer when it comes to putting pen to paper.

I’ve never been an artist but come to find out neither was many popular ancient artists whom used this same (not as high tech) device! Ever wonder where that scientist (I forget his name) figured out how to split light with a prism? Also, many of historical artists used these devices. I had no idea!!

Can work well if observer and object are alined and object well lighted.

My decades of drawing professionally gives me a certain fascility with drawing tools. I would not recommend an untrained draftsperson use the Neolucida because it makes hand-eye coordination difficult. Tracking the drawing tool is like following a ghost because it disappears with the slightest movement of breathing. Staying in the same position is required and so a small deviation of the head will result in the vanishing of the subject as well. Hard on the neck, too. The light must be exact in order to have an image of the subject. A small vase of flowers cannot be projected in whole. All in all the Neolucida is not worth purchasing, has poor instruction, hard on the eyes, bad for the neck, and a real brain drain.

A very cool way to accurately draw/sketch.

I couldn't really see well in it and it moved around with too much. I tried to find another one of my artist friends who was interested in it and no one seemed to be able to appreciate it.

I am fascinated by the equipment past artists used before photography. The fact this came from an American source could have been problematic. Amazon made this so simple to purchase. It was quick and I am learning how-to use it. Not there yet.

Ich hatte mir das einfacher vorgestellt. Meine ersten Versuche ergaben leider bei weitem nicht das erwartete Ergebnis, obwohl ich eigentlich mal "Künstler" gewesen bin. - Ich denke, ich werde in Zukunft lieber wieder Freihand zeichnen.

I am new to Watercolour painting so I thought this would give me a good start to precise forms of the subject/s. It is very easy to install, just follow the instructions on the pamphlet. But before you buy, please research because with this product, you will need to manipulate the object so you can fill your paper. In this case, I used 9X12 Watercolour paper and it won’t fill the entire page (photo reference). You need to practice enlarging a photo. So imagine if you have an object to draw, you need to consider size and placement of the subject. I still like it, I will play around and see what more it can do.

This was a birthday gift. It appeared to be well made and as described.
