WHY did I mess with a SmartOne for years?
I have COPD, and for a few years I relied on a MIR SmartOne to test my pulmonary function. I had one that worked great, but when it wore out (which they do, since the turbine and mouthpiece are plastic and have to be removed, cleaned, and replaced--they become loose and wobbly), I ordered a new one. In fact, I got FOUR, and each one performed poorly--software issues, problems with parts, etc. I returned them all and, in disgust, I ordered the Sonmol (at half the price of a SmartOne).I rarely say anything is a game-changes, but for me, this spirometer is. The sturdiness of the component and the ease of use is astonishing. One blow is all it takes to get a measurement (as opposed to three for each with the MIR). I can upload my data to the app (seamless integration) or enter it manually. I usually do several tests and choose the best one, and I find that the readings can vary widely; however, you can't replicate a blow exactly--the deepness, your mouth's position on the mouthpiece, etc., so I don't find this abnormal. I'm finding that it reflects how I'm feeling on a given day and is close to my most recent PFTs, so I consider it quite accurate. Having COPD, I'm more interested in the FEV1 than the PEF and wish the software had a separate graph for it, but that's a minor issue given all the positives of this sturdy, extremely portable, user-friendly, great little machine. I'm delighted with this purchase. (BTW, if you travel, it fits well in some of the insulin pen carriers here on Amazon, with room for alcohol preps and both mouthpieces. Just be sure to measure depth and width carefully.)

FEV1 to %
Excellent product ! Disappointed that it doesn't convert FEV1 to percent ! I have tried several. This is by far the best one and is half the price of the one I had before.

Works as intended, but has limitations.
The device is easy and fairly intuitive to use. It pairs with app which is very easy to setup. The app records your results. You enter your target PEF, which is given to you by your doctor or clinician. If your doctor gives you a range, you enter the highest number. The software then calculates green, yellow, and red ranges based on the target PEF value. It doesn't automatically record your results in the app, you do need to sync it for this to occur. So far, my only real complaint is that I'm stuck with the green/yellow/red ranges as calculated by the app, and I can't enter the ranges my doctor wants me to use. For example, my doctor has PEF of 368-465 as my green range, so I entered 465 as my target PEF. The software calculated 372-465 as my green range, and the green range is where I want to be. My doctor defined my green range as 368-465, so it's a very minor difference. If my values drop into the yellow range, I need to use my rescue inhaler until my values return to the green range, and values in the red range mean I need to seek medical care at an emergency department. If you don't have a PEF value assigned by a doctor, there are plenty of charts available online to help you calculate it.Overall, the device is easy to use and is doing it's job.

Valuable tool to have to monitor respiratory status.
Having adult onset asthma this unit visually lets me see my respiratory status. It is easy to use and clean. A record can be stored when you download the free application. Great data to have to show the pulmonologist.

does exactly what it says it will
This works really well and lets me keep track of my COPD symptoms and treatment. I test myself a few times a week. It appears accurate, and when I used it at the Dr. office and compared the results with their equipment, it was very close. A good purchase if you feel the need for such a device.

It works. It has some issues with Bluetooth downloading
It works, but I haven’t figured out how to delete recordings over 300 or three months without deleting the app

Great Product
It is easy to use and it really helps you know where you values are for tracking COPD treatment. I've dropped it a few times and it still works fine. Good value.

Poor accuracy
The accuracy on this one leaves a LOT to be desired, compared to the traditional analog one with the little sliders. Frequently my husband will blow a 650-700 on this one (which we KNOW is wrong), and then blows a 375-400 (MUCH more accurate) on the analog one. It’s like this one has no resistance to the flow to measure. The display is in an awkward place, as well. Not a fan and we won’t be using it.
