There are three settings and the brightest level is good. I don't really use the dimmer level. I still think I want an overhead light when working with these. They are good when you're using dark yarn, but I don't think I would be able to use them as the only light source. I was also told I would need the little wrench to remove the heads, but I have found I can do it without. I am not sure if that is good or bad.
