Pond pump of choice and a hose connecting pump to UV unit and ring clamps to attach the hose to the UV. The company's site Pet-Mate / Ani Mate has a Q&A section on choosing pump and filters, pdf files per pump with installation, sizes and specifications, if you require more precise infomation.

The Fish Mate 500 GUV Pond Filter is a gravity and UV FILTER not a pump.    It is not submersible.   
The filter works in conjunction with a submersible pump that flows water into and through the  filtration system and back into your pond.  Inside is a Ultraviolet light that kills algae.   
This filter has to be installed above ground, outside of your pond and at or above the desired outlet level, e.g top of a waterfall.

How do you change uv bulb for Fish mate 500?

1.unplug it 2. you will see screws (on most 4 of them) on the top of the lid 2 of them in the front by the flip up lid are the ones that you need to get to for the light the other 2 are to secure the top to the base. If you bend the flip up out a little it will come off the 2 plastic pins it rolls on and that will make it easier to do the screws. once open the 2 ends of the bulb are plugs that pull off then slide the old light out and reinstall new bulb in reverse. put it all back together in reverse of disassembly. take pictures as you go along with you phone if you can and you should be fine I hope this helps.
