It's dense foam, not mesh
Just be aware that the square of filter foam you get is 'foamy' like the main product photo - not the less dense mesh that is shown in one of the later photos. It was bought to replace some plastic mesh in a hairdryer filter, so not sure yet if it might be too dense for the job. The photo shows the square of foam received - much more dense than a circular hairdryer mesh filter that I've shown next too it.

A great substitute!
I used this (doubled up) as a filter in a bathroom ceiling fan because I couldn’t find a direct replacement for the old one. It worked brilliantly!
