Review: Nice compact keyboard with a good build quality and nice typing feel. - What a great little keyboard. Initially I bought it to use with my new Mac Mini G4, but after a few months I added a gaming laptop to my desk and this works on that too (I'm typing this review on it!). It's very compact and slides out the way when not in use and has the ability to work on 3 different devices. Typing feels nice, very much like a Mac keyboard and the berry lasts for ages. It was great value too as I got an open box one that looks like new!
Review: Outstanding and better than the original - As a huge Apple fan, I’ve always stuck with Apple products. However, when my magic keyboard broke recently, I was a bit strapped for cash. So I decided to try the Satechi slim X1. I was blown away by how fantastic it feels and, in my opinion, it’s far superior to the Apple keyboard. It types beautifully, is incredibly responsive and incredibly easy to use. The only downside is that it’s American, so you have to go into your Mac’s settings and change the keyboard layout. It’s not a big deal though; the £ symbol isn’t on the keyboard, which is honestly not a huge issue. One feature I absolutely love is the three Bluetooth channels. You can link it to three different devices simultaneously and easily switch between them with a single click. The keyboard even has backlighting and an amazing battery life that lasts forever. It feels like it never needs charging. I’ve never looked back at the magic keyboard and we always use the Satechi now.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this be used wired as well? Since the battery inside is not user replaceable, do you just throw away the whole keyboard, or is it dual power?**
A: I don't know why the other user gave you incorrect information. The keyboard 100% has wired mode. Plug a USB-C cord into your computer and the keyboard, then press "FN + Eject Key" on the keyboard (Eject Key is to right of F12). Bluetooth will turn off, the keyboard will be charging, and it will still work with your computer.

**Q: What is the battery life if you have backlight off?**
A: Thank you for choosing Satechi and for reaching out to us. 

We first recommend charging the keyboard for at least 2-3 hours with the included charging cable with a power adapter for a more efficient charge. (18W and up) 

If you are using the backlight all the time at the highest brightness, it can drain the battery quite fast, but it does have a standby shut-off mode, that kicks in after 30min of non-usage. You can change the settings so it does not completely shut off.


With no backlight on, the battery is about 60hrs.

If you would like to use the backlight and not worry about the battery, you can also use the keyboard in wired mode. While using one of the two cables included, you can use the key combination (fn+usb/eject) to turn off the Bluetooth and use it in wired-only mode. A green light will stay lit on the top right when in this mode

**Q: Will this keyboard work ok with a pc and android device as well? i would assume so....**
A: Yes. The Satechi Slim X1 Bluetooth Backlit Keyboard will be compatible with Windows and Android Devices.

**Q: Is this backwards compatible with bluetooth 2.1? i cant get it to connect to my macbook (late 2008) eventhough my os is up to date...**

Unfortunately our X1 SLIM is not compatible with old devices with 2.1 Bluetooth modules.

What a great little keyboard. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Satechi Slim X1 Review

I've only had this keyboard a day but so far it's really good. I'm coming directly from the Apple Magic Keyboard (full size), and while this does feel different it's about as close as you're going to get. The keys have a tad more travel, it feels like one of the older MacBooks circa 2010, which isn't a bad thing. The backlight works well too, there's a little bit of bleed around the keys as well as the actual letters lighting up, which I think is by design rather than a technical limitation. It would have been nice to have a UK keyboard layout option, but it's not the end of the world. shift + 3 is the £ sign if anyone is wondering. The build quality is very good, it's up there with the Apple Magic Keyboard. The grey colour of the keyboard doesn't match the space grey of the Apple magic keyboard exactly, it's a slightly lighter shade (see attached photograph). It doesn't bother me as I'm using it together with an Apple Magic Mouse which is black on top, but I could see it being an issue if you were looking to colour match to the Magic Trackpad. Connectivity seems good. It paired with my M1 Mac mini with no issues, and wakes the computer from sleep just fine. The keyboard can be paired with up to 3 wireless devices, and can be used wired as well. I haven't encountered the issue with the keyboard not being recognised at the login screen, or with key presses registering more than once - which was mentioned in a couple of the other reviews. It all works fine for me. The function keys labeled for screen brightness don't seem to work though. I have an Apple Thunderbolt Display connected to my Mac mini, and using the same keys on my previous keyboard adjusts the screen brightness. I don't know if I've not set it up correctly or something, but the rest of the function keys work fine and do as you would expect. Over all I'd give this keyboard 5 stars. While it's not perfect, the price is reasonable and I think the score needs bumping up a bit as it should be more than 3/5. Until Apple decide to make the space grey Magic Keyboard in the smaller size, this is the nearest you're going to get.
