B&P Lamp® Antique Brass Socket with Matching Cord Set and Basic Hardware

My parents had two old lamps from when they were first married in the 1960s. The lamps sat in storage for decades. I asked to have them because they reminded me of my childhood home. I spent a lot of $$$ getting them shipped from California to Virginia. The old cords and sockets were pretty sus, so I ordered these replacements. They were perfect! It's a. pretty easy install, but the instructions about the ribbed wire were confusing. Luckily, someone else posted the information in their review. The ribbed wire has a bump running down the side. Here are before and after pictures, plus a bonus picture of the lamps with cute new shades. I've moved cross country several times, but this makes my place feel like home. I would have been hesitant to use these lamps with the old hardware, so I'm super happy with this purchase.

This is a great kit and easy to use. The "ribbed" side has a raised plastic edge running down the length of the wire. You can't see it but can feel it .

This was exactly what I needed to keep my forty year old lamp going! I love my lamp but the switch was no longer working properly. This is what I needed, directions were clear, and my lamp is good as new!

New at rewiring. I purchased this kit twice. The first experience was great! But when I attempted to wire a second lamp, the socket cap was too small for the lamp rod (which was welded into the lamp). Found larger size socket on Amazon (Texas Lamp Mfg), and used the cord from this kit. The hot wire is very difficult to identify. Once I did, I marked an inch at the top with red ink. The instructions could be more detailed (how to tie a UL knot etc., but you tube helped tremendously. This is a great kit for most lamps.

Purchased a pair of retro lamps from the thrift store knowing one did not work. This kit made requiring both lamps easy. The brass looked to new for the lamps so I did prefer to utilize the socket from the original lamp to keep the vibe. The cord length is ample and gold in color. Instructions were simple.

Before you take that old lamp apart, REALLY make sure it needs total rewiring and not just a new socket. And examine the turns you expect the new cord to make. This lamp really just needed a new socket, and i should have quit there. But I was a novice to lamp wiring. But. Whatever. Look carefully at lamp BEFORE you take wiring out. On this lamp, the cord enters the base from the side, then takes a 90 degree turn to run up a metal tube---and the tube has 2 bends in it. Metal tube cannot be removed, is barely the width of a modern electric cord-- nor does bottom come off lamp, since it is wood and glued on. The new cord would. not. go. up. Hours later, I put it in storage. Months passed. I asked someone who has done electric, and he said petroleum jelly. Yes!! COPIOUS amounts of vaseline, just drown that cord in it, dip the cord in the jar instead of applying lube to the cord--starting where you are feeding it in, and add more and more and cord will ssslllloooowwwwwlllly goes through. Eventually I reached the top, paused to grow new skin cells, then eventually finished. Oh and finding that ribbed neutral wire? Its easier to FEEL it than to see it, and it runs lengthwise fyi, so just feel both sides of wire carefully and that is easiest.

I looked at dozens of these but wanted made in The USA. I bought two to rewire my Grandmother's table lamps. I am pleased with the quality and ease at which I was able to switch out the wiring. Suggest watching a You Tube video though as the directions were minimal and if you haven't done this before you may need the video to guide you

Yes product worked well. Just a warning of caution. If your not familiar with wiring, Make sure you know which wire goes to which screw pay close attention or get help from someone who knows.

This is perfect for re-wiring an old lamp as long as the path from lamp base to neck is relatively straight or wide. Like other reviewers, I had trouble figuring out which wire was the ribbed neutral wire. I am a total beginner. The "ribbing" is vertical raised stripes down the edge of one side of the plastic covered wire. I stared, magnified, touched, and got a second opinion... finally used my tongue and that makes it more obvious which is the ribbed wire. The lamp works great now!
