Is this actually a Redmed product or aftermarket knockoff?

No, it is a cheap knock off. Even though it claims to be a Res Med product. When you read all the information at the bottom it shows made by a different company.

is this comfortable with a trimmed goatee?

I have a FULL beard as I portray Santa Claus during the Christmas season. If you take the time to neatly arrange your beard inside and around the chin strap it is very comfortable and more importantly doesn't mess up the appearance of your beard.

How do I know it's made made by Resmed?

It does not say Resmed on the chin strap. I don't remember if there was anything on the packaging. But it works great!
