You have to leave the app running in the background and stay connected through Bluetooth. It does however let you send them through the app, so you can still keep in touch while I don’t wear my bracelet to work because I’m afraid I’ll break it.

Was a bit unsure when I bought these for my daughter and her bestie but they absolutely love them. Gives them a way to stay in touch without being on their phone. Me and my wife love them and use them everyday. Battery life is great love the color ways for myself and hers. People ask her about her bracelet all the time. She loves it. Also I love how well the bracelets fit the charger such a solid snug fit. I would definitely say it fits better than Apple Watch does on their charger. I would definitely recommend.
