Significant steps (rollings?) forward for remote control cars!
I flippin' love this thing. So quick story from my childhood: My brothers both wanted these really impressive remote control cars for Christmas. They were expensive so they were also, of course, really impressive. Fast, quick to charge, long battery life. All of the things a traditional remote control car that you'll find at the stores is, has, and does. I didn't ask for one because.... I don't know why I didn't ask for one. My parents thought I'd feel left out so they still got me a smaller, less expensive remote control car. It was called "The Chipmunk" and, clearly, this experience left an impression. The thing was small, slow, felt super cheap, and would have broken when it hit a wall if it could have gotten moving fast enough. In short, I got what my parents paid for. And I had fun with it! ... Love you, Mom and Dad!Anyway, the Ollie might seem expensive but it is, as far as I'm concerned, a bargain. I got what I paid for and more. It's fast, it's sturdy, and it's fun. Having played with Orbotix first product a lot (I love remote control cars so how could I not get a remote control BALL!?), I knew what to expect with regards to the iOS app. Accept that since this doesn't look like a car, you will need to wrap your head around which direction it's going and, on occasion, re-calibrate the direction your iOS device says the Ollie is rolling in. It's not difficult; this is not brain surgery. And it's certainly not something that is going to define your experience. It's just part of controlling Ollie. You know what happens with traditional remote control cars that doesn't happen with Ollie but that people DON'T complain about? Remote control cars flip over. They wind up on their roofs and you have to go over to them and flip them back onto their wheels. Nothing's perfect. But I tell you what, I'd rather have to re-calibrate my Ollie while standing still than have to walk all the way to the other side of my old cul-de-sac to flip over my gas-powered remote control truck (I upgraded from The Chipmunk when I got a little older). If you're a bit older, there may be a learning curve for driving Ollie but, once you've got the hang of it, it makes complete sense. If you're looking at getting Ollie for a kid, well, like with all new technology, they'll take to it like a duck to water.

Ollie is Awesome
I was an early adopter of Orbotix "robots." I had a Sphero almost immediately after they came out, and a Sphero 2.0 the day they came out. My wife has a regular Sphero as well.I've had an Ollie since about a week after it came out, and I'm just now getting around to reviewing it.I've used the Ollie extensively. Fun is an understatement. This thing FLIES. It's fast, precise, and works very well. I like how it almost magically turns on just by me holding my phone up to it.Many of the options you find in Sphero you find here...such as the ability to change the color of the lights and things like that. You can adjust the speeds for indoor use or for outdoor use.Outdoor use is one of the big advantages to Ollie to me. I've used the Sphero outside, and it just doesn't seem to be as fun as it is indoors. It's simply a bit too slow. Ollie, on the other hand, has plenty of wheels to get himself going on pavement and cement. He's a blast to drive around outside. The only negative to Ollie?? I kind of wish I had gotten the Darkside version...the black looks killer...but, there's nothing wrong with being the good guy, I guess!!!This is a fun toy...I highly recommend it!!!

Fun toy, mostly for older kids or adults.
Pros:- Lots of fun- Very fast on a smooth surface.- It actually can drive on thick carpet. (I was very impressed as the sphero 1.0 really sucked on thick carpet.)- Trick mode is a big hit with younger kids. They love seeing it bounce all over sporadically.- Powerful enough to even drive up a 20 degree inclined driveway.Cons:- In a house the ollie gets stuck along walls and chairs a lot. That is ok since there is a tricks mode that you can make the ollie spin and flip out of control and that usually gets the ollie away from the wall. I wish there was a button to make the ollie try to quickly move left and right until it doesn't hit any obstructions letting you resume your driving experience.- Will not reconnect after going out of range.I have not had success with the app reconnecting to the ollie after it gets out of range. I am sure this is a software issue that will be resolved but right now it is annoying.- No Stop button. Sometimes the ollie gets going quite fast and you need to stop it. It would be nice if there was a quick stop button to counter rotate the ollie in the opposite direction it is drving to slow it down quickly.Overall:Overall the ollie is quite expensive for a remote control car, but for those who want a cool new toy, or love to play around with new gadgets this thing is great.Don't let all the negative points dissuade you from getting the ollie. I was just pointing out a few annoyances to the product as it is now. I am sure some of them will be addressed with a software update in the future.

GREAT TOY and learning tool!
This was a gift for my 9 yr old son for Christmas. It is SUPER cool, and he's enjoyed running it around the house and making obstacle courses for it. It does hold its charge for a very long time, so that's great. I look forward to him being able to use it outside in another month or so (we live in WI, and it's been too snowy or muddy for me to let Ollie go outside yet). I do think it will do well on the sidewalk, on the gravel and on the grass. I'm excited to see what my son comes up with when he has a larger terrain to use!

It's ok, not as good as the sphere balls.
I bought a sphero ball awhile back and thought this would work better on carpet to entertain my dogs. I was wrong, the Ollie doesnt have good acceleration on carpet and would get stuck on any little object. I was hoping with enough speed it would ramp over things or have enough force to move little dog toys. With saying that, the stunt pad is pretty fun. I do have to use the stunts to dislodge the ollie off of small objects and walls to often

Saludos!

Ollie is indeed very fast..!
OMG..! Folks this is an amazing toy for grown-ups..! It’s very fast & it does amazing things once you’ve mastered the controls, which are IMO very tricky. But once you’re over that stage, WOW..! 14MPH (22.5 KMH) is pretty darn fast for a small robot..! I highly recommend this.
