Quietest AC I've Owned
I've lived in NYC all my life and have used many ACs over that time including those that claim to be whisper quiet. There have been none that live up to that name except for this one. It installs in minutes, like 5 minutes! So easy a caveman could do it. It looks great in the window ( see attached photo) . and once you turn it on and let it run for 5 or 10 minutes it quiets down o the point where you barely recognize it's on. I use it to cool my entire 2 bedroom apartment and love that when it is on I cannot hear it all in my bedroom which I leave the door open and use a tower fan to bring the cold air to me. At first you will hear not the typical loud humming of an average AC which never gets any loqwer, but a sort of buzzing sound. Thhis will be noticeable for about 5 or 10 minutes as the AC begins to cool the room. After this time that sound will go almost inaudible and all you will hear and very low wooshng of thefan if set at low. In fact if set at low you might not even hear the fan at all. The buzzing gets barely audible if you are in the same room and unnoticeable in other rooms. And unlike other ACS when it cycles on and off there is no noticeable big shaking of the window pane or in the walls. It just goes on, the buzzing starts and then goes away. The longer it stays on the quieter it gets. So as far as the AC is concerned , it's great. Cools 900 square in 30 minutes at high fan which i then turn down to low. Is very very quiet, and looks super clean in the window. I'd say buy this one. My only negative about this AC is the Wifi App to turn it on and off remotely. When I first installed it, it worked fine. I was able to turn the AC on or regulate the temperature when i was at work to get ready for my arrival and turn it down or off when i was out. Very handy indeed! I loved it. However it stopped working, and when i tried to re-install and reconnect , well lets just say after 5 or 6 attempts ( and I'm very tech savvy) i got frustrated and deleted it all my data. Kudos on the AC but fix the APP to make this a super special Air Conditioer

Pretty but Useless
UPDATE 14 JUL 2025 Nearly 1 year after purchase, used approx 14 weeks combined and this unit is completely DEAD. Around 1 am this morning the unit began flashing and dropped temperature to 60⁰F. When I tried adjusting temperature, the unit turned off. Tried power button, nothing. Unplugged, replugged, tried again. Nothing. Unplugged and decided to try at 5am (when I get up for work). Nothing. For the price point, I certainly expected to get more than 3.5 months of use. INITIAL REVIEW: After 24hrs of use the manual buttons do not work. Cannot turn ac off or on. Cannot adjust temperature. Cannot adjust speed. Cannot select an alternate mode. The remote is semi-responsive: can turn on/off, cannot adjust temperature, cannot select an alternate mode, can adjust fan speed. Additionally, condensation has built up and dropped onto my floor, causing damage. This was so easy to install on my own and looks good too! I love the thoughtfulness of the vanity screen covers - which also helps to block out light. The machine certainly cools well and is very quiet.compared to my last ac. Unfortunately, not being able to customize my comfort is a huge downside.

Only regret not installing it right away!
I normally don’t write reviews unless I’m really impressed by something. This past year my A/C died. It’s an outdated system and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately it’s been added to a list of things that need to be fixed. I have portable a/c that I bought for times like this. Well, the unit I’ve been using in my master bedroom was struggling to keep up with the Texas heat. It cooled enough to be able sleep at night, although I would have to take a cold shower halfway through the night to cool down and get the sweat off me. Unfortunately I work 3 nights a week and need to sleep during the day. So I bought this unit. It had good reviews and easy installation was commonly mentioned. Delivery was fast, it was on my porch when I got home from work the next day. I put it on my trolly and pull it into the backyard by the window I was hoping to install it in. The box said the unit was heavy, and it felt heavy while I was moving it to my backyard, so I got scared. I live by myself, and I’m a 58 y/o woman who needs to get in better shape. So I procrastinated for about a week. Yesterday morning I opened the box, got the instruction manual out, and took the unit out of the box and placed it on my trolly. The unit was heavy, but I managed just fine. Next I read the instructions. It does recommend have 2 people install it, but wasn’t really an option for me atm. The original window I wanted to use was too small, but the window next to it was perfect. I opened the window, took off the screen, and cleaned the window pane. I then picked up the unit, put it in the window, centered it, and remembered I was supposed to measure and install the foam insulation first. So back on the trolly the unit went. Installed the insulation, and finally officially installed the unit al by myself and maybe took all of 15 minutes. Here’s were the real challenges come. The installation instructions were detailed and clear. After that not so much. There is a remote control with no batteries…they included scissors to cut the insulation, but no batteries for the remote. Guess what size batteries I didn’t have? Triple A. No problem I’ll just scan the QR code and install the remote on my phone. Went to turn the unit on so I could pair them up and couldn’t get it to turn on. Once again there was nothing in the instructions manual on how to do this or even a diagram on what each button did. So I resorted to pushing buttons. Turned out you need to push the reset button on the plug before you can turn it on. So I got it turned on and blowing out cold air. By this time it’s 93°F in my bedroom and I’m drenched in sweat and my phone is at 26%. One cold shower later, the room feels cooler. So I attempt to connect the remote app to the unit, but it just won’t connect. No worries, I’ll pick up AAA batteries tomorrow morning and just use the remote. Well, I went bed around 10ish to a perfectly cool room, and woke up a few hours later freezing with no blankets in my room. Well it was either get up and get a blanket out of the utility room or get the remote app to work. Funny how desperation finally gets you to see what you were missing the whole time. If your phone won’t connect to the unit on its own you can do it manually. A few minutes later I had the temperature on the unit adjusted without ever getting out of bed. Woke up this morning to a cool bedroom and even my master bath was perfectly cool and it’s usually on the warm side. It’s only been a day, but I’m loving it so far. It’s currently 95° outside, and 68° in my bedroom. I work tomorrow night and can’t wait to see how much better I’ll sleep. Finally I have 2 cats that used to always sleep in my room, but have been hiding elsewhere to keep cool. They have both returned to my bedroom where it’s comfy and cool.

Fantastic Product, Exceptional Customer Service and Seamless Installation.
I’ve had my Windmill AC for two months and could not be happier with its ability to quickly cool my studio apartment, its quiet nature, its efficiency from an energy standpoint, the technology / smart compatibility, and customer service. The unit arrived promptly within two days after purchasing from Windmill, and being someone who supports small businesses, buying directly from the company’s store on Amazon was an added bonus to an already great product. Setting up the AC was seamless and straightforward, with concise yet detailed directions that made the installation process stress-free and quick. The ancillary items provided with the unit (insulation, adhesive foam, hardware, etc.) were great and more than enough to safely and efficiently set up the AC (and required no trips to the hardware store that were all too common with past units I have purchased). From start to finish, I was able to set up the AC unit in under an hour, and contrary to other units I’ve owned that were oversized or required an abundance of foam / installation to prevent cold air from escaping the room, the items provided were more than enough to secure the unit, insulate the room, and make the unit look great. In terms of output and performance, the Windmill AC unit exceeded my expectations from the start, quickly cooling my studio apartment that often gets very warm during the late afternoon. The fact that the air flows up from the unit, versus straight out like many other brands, enables you to cool down a room with tall ceilings or awkward dimensions (very deep room etc.). The “eco” feature is another positive that I’ve loved about Windmill as it balances energy consumption via fan speed and desired temperature to maximize efficiency. Lastly, I spoke to a Windmill representative about the “smart” setup given my disdain with technology, and he went above and beyond to ensure I could operate and monitor the unit from my smart phone – something that I would never have been able to figure out. Overall, I highly recommend this AC unit for anyone looking to have a powerful yet efficient machine and guaranteed easy installation process, not to mention the exceptional customer service and support of small business.

Developed issues after a month.
Update after one month: IT RATTLES. After using it for one month, it has developed an incredibly annoying rattle every time the cool and eco settings are used. I don’t believe it’s the fan, because it doesn’t make the same noise when the fan setting is being used. This leads me to believe that it’s likely something to do with the compressor. Just a thought of having to. Just the thought of having to remove it and return it for a replacement feels exhausting. I’m not sure what to do now. I don’t know how reliable it’s going to be in a few months if it’s already experiencing issues after only being used for one month. Original review: This was a super easy install. My husband was able to install in less than 20 minutes. It’s VERY quiet. My regular fan is louder than this unit on high. It cooled the room quickly as well. The app was very easy to setup, intuitive and fast. Aesthetically… probably the best looking window unit I’ve seen. Very impressed and definitely recommend.

Great at first but didnt last more than 6 months of use
We splurged on this AC because we wanted something that wasnt an eyesore and because its in our TV room, wanted a quieter unit. When it worked, it cooled exactly as we hoped. Unfortunately, it only lasted two seasons—really only about six months of actual use. We took great care of it, stored it properly during the off-season, and this year the compressor appears to have failed. The fan runs, but it no longer blows cold air. Ive reached out to Windmill customer support and are hopeful they'll stand behind their product by repairing or replacing the unit. If they do, I'll gladly update this review. Until then, it's hard to justify the premium price for a product that lasted such a short time.

Best AC EVA
I recently purchased the Windmill 12,000 BTU air conditioner, and I couldn't be happier with it. It cools my space quickly and evenly, even on the hottest days. One of the biggest surprises was how quiet it is compared to traditional window units—I can comfortably watch TV without the constant loud AC noise. The design is sleek and modern, which is a huge upgrade from the typical bulky window air conditioner. Installation was straightforward and easy enough that two 30 year old women were able to do it alone 😂 the app is also extremely helpful and works efficiently!

User friendly, good customer service.
Easy to install, very user friendly. Easy to set up app. Unfortunately my unit was one that started making a loud motor noise, which you might see in some other reviews. However they have really good customer service. After sending a few videos they sent me a replacement! Francesca and Rachel and others were very responsive and nice. The new unit is nice and quiet (video). Make sure you register your unit and let them know if you have any issues within the first year! Hopefully this one keeps running smoothly. Note it blows out the top, not the front. Possibly a bit less efficient/cooling than others due to this, so make sure you actually pay attention to the size suggestions and get the right size for your space.
