LinkTap Smart Wireless Water Tap Timer Garden Automatic Irrigation Controller

Short review: This is an excellent product and just what I needed. So far it’s reliable with excellent wireless connectivity and long battery life. I can now remotely control my watering or follow various types of schedules. My wife and I are both very happy with this purchase. If you need a retirement gift for someone this would be an excellent choice! Peace of mind while they’re off enjoying their new life. At least that’s what it is for us. Longer review: My wife spends a lot of time creating beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and I maintain a nice lawn. My job is to keep it all watered when we’re traveling. I’ve used quad port timers from Orbit for about 10 years now and while they work I’m constantly replacing timers or valves and I don’t know if they’re functioning when I’m away from home. Now Orbit no longer makes the model with external valves so I had to find a replacement. In addition, finding a device I could control remotely was very desirable. I researched several remote control hose timers and read every review I could find. Those reviews generated performance questions. Jack at Taplink answered all of my questions and the other vendors I contacted didn’t bother to respond. After extensive testing Jacks answers have proven to be extremely accurate. I really like the Rachio controller that my daughter has at her home and its remote control capabilities but they don’t make a hose timer version. The Taplink device gives me similar remote control functionality with my hoses. I’m so glad I chose the TapLink device. It’s everything I hoped it would be and more. For a new setup you need to buy a Gateway and a LinkTap valve. After that you can buy more valves and link them to the original Gateway. My system is very extensive and I have 12 valves on one Gateway (pop up sprinklers, drip lines, soaker hoses). This is more than TapLink shows as the maximum and is the result of recent improvements they have made (partly at my request). Check with Jack at TapLink support for the new limit. Setup is super easy. I question the two minute claim for your first one because you will have to download their app and create an account. Then you’ll need to attach the Gateway to your internet router with an Ethernet cord (you should have at least one unused port available). Then you need to find four AA batteries and remove 6 small screws, install the batteries and reinstall the screws. The second, third, etc will be very close to two minutes but the first one is going to take a bit longer. Setup consists of opening the App, selecting Gateway/Add new Gateway and pointing your phone camera at the Gateway serial number. The App will tell you when the Gateway is ready to use and LED’s on the Gateway will indicate connection success. Then you can add the TapLinker by selecting TapLinker/Add new TapLinker and pointing your phone camera at the TapLinker serial number. Again the App will tell you when the TapLinker is ready to use (and the device LED’s will indicate connection success). I have had no problems installing two Gateways (in different states) and twelve TapLinkers. It is possible to have 3 Gateways and (currently) 15 TapLinkers on each Gateway. The Gateways can be at one location or multiple locations. I have homes in two different states and a single account lets me access and control both locations. I now have remote control of my watering and can run my system via schedules or manually no matter where I am using my phone, iPad or laptop. It’s fantastic! If you create a schedule you can activate it or perform a manual watering operation. You can also create multiple watering schedules and activate one depending on the situation. For instance you could create schedules for Spring, Summer and Fall watering needs and activate the proper one as the year progresses. There’s also a skip feature so you can automatically save water if a scheduled run time coincides with a rain event. So far the hardware setup has been very good with no leaks, excellent wireless connectivity and flawless valve ON/OFF operation. The software has some room for enhancement but overall it’s very good and has nice features. Using the camera to read the serial numbers is great! There are a couple of design flaws in the software but I’m accepting how they work for now. I don’t like how Instant mode fails to activate the prior Activated schedule if I stop instant mode early. I think that’s something they’re going to fix. I’ll be adding more technical details and pictures to this review later on but for now I just want to say I think I made an excellent choice! It does cost more than the Orbit timers I used previously but it should be more reliable and now I have remote access! I have some scheduling feature changes to discuss with Jack. I think they’ll be useful. And I hope they get incorporated in the software. Technical review will follow later. This is my second attempt to do a review on the TapLink products. Somehow Amazon lost the first one and I’ll have to do it again and I’m out of time for now.

After struggling to find a WiFi-based water timer for ages, and having made use of the standard-issue basic timers til now, I've finally found a fantastic and reliable system that has proven itself many times over. The LinkTap app is packed with functionality. It has logs of previous activity, the ability to schedule things to the nth degree, easy overrides for "instant" watering, and a very detailed and reliable system that uses weather data and forecasts to skip watering automatically based on your very specific settings (or the well-configured standard default settings). When we were on a trip recently, the system watered properly every day, but skipped watering when we had a few days of rain. All of this was visible to me on the app on my phone, hundreds of miles away. And if I'd wanted to, I could have told it to water anyway if I'd wanted. This is such a great benefit and totally changes the situation for me for the better. In the past, not only could I not control the system when I wasn't home, but even when I was home I had countless mornings where I woke up to a rainstorm happening outside while the sprinklers were running full-tilt outside based on the times set on my manual daily timers (Orbit). There's nothing worse than having to pull on your shoes at 6am and go out into a pouring rainstorm to turn off a bunch of sprinklers. Now, that's all in the past. The only thing I have yet to determine is the battery life in the individual units that control the watering, but there's an icon in the app that indicates a full charge thusfar (as well as another that shows wifi connection strength) so things bode well and I'm very optimistic about that too. I'm really happy that I invested in this system. FYI, I'm using my LinkTap units to control watering for a buried Rainbird sprinkler system that I installed myself earlier this year for the front and back yards of our house. I have two LinkTap units to control the watering and of course the required hub to control them, plugged into our router upstairs. After I finished all that digging in the yard to install the sprinklers and realized they actually worked, the LinkTap system was the icing on the cake that took it to the next level.

UPDATED REVIEW (9/29/18): We've now reached the end of the growing season for me here in northern Utah and I've pulled my taplinker inside to protect it from freezing temperatures at night. This unit has been absolutely flawless during the growing season, and I'm still hoping they might have a multi-manifold unit available by next spring when I start planting as I want to expand my drip to trees and flowerbeds on the property. Unlike more well known name brands out there at the local big box stores, this unit has stood the test of time on my spigot. We have exceedingly hard water where I am (CLR in the coffeepot every single month hard), and it hasn't seemed to even make the taplinker flinch. Removing my batteries for winter storage there's zero sign of water intrusion in the case, and no excessive hard water deposits visible inside the hose connections. (Original Review - 7/8/18) If there's anything better than great hardware and software, it's amazing customer service, and with LinkTap you get it all. TLDR; Amazing product, fantastic customer service from the developers, just click buy already! I've been working with LinkTap since the first week of June (as I write this we are now into July), and this timer met and exceeded all of my expectations. My house runs 90psi at my hose bib with nothing pulling water, which is a fairly high water pressure. I found that high of a pressure frankly destroyed the valves in the cheaper competition out there. (I actually completely destroyed a Melnor unit's valves on the first use). Turns out you really need to dig through the fine print on timers to know if they can handle your water pressure. Orbit's Hyve couldn't even do it. When I contacted LinkTap on Facebook prior to purchasing, I got a near immediate response. (Keep in mind, they are in Australia, so if you're in the US the time zone thing will come into play, but I've never once had to wait for a response more than twenty minutes outside of regular business hours in Canberra.) My taplinker is set up to control my drip irrigation to my vegetable garden, and it was critical it worked during the week we were away on vacation. Set up was quite easy to my network, and the app (I use the Android version) has been flawless. The device communicates flawlessly to my phone even when I'm not on my home network, and with a quick call to my neighbor to check on things I was able to adjust my watering schedule with a couple of quick clicks and my garden thrived while we were 400+ miles away. I do have my gateway on the same side as the house as my taplinker, but given my network coverage I wouldn't hesitate to put it on the other side as well and plan to get a second to convert the flower beds over to drip next year. Living in a very arid climate, drip is the responsible way to irrigate my property, and we look forward to adding to our system. The Eco Mode really helps me use a single program and make sure all my water gets to my plants instead of running off to places it's not needed. Anytime I've had a question or concern, reaching out to LinkTap has been painless, and the resolutions fast. You know your concern matters to someone when you do the time zone math to realize they're reaching out to you at nearly midnight locally for them because there's a nagging issue they just can't step away from. (Turned out it was a bit of user error on that one ;-) ) So frankly, all in all, yes....you are paying quite a bit more to get started with LinkTap than some of the "competitors" (but frankly, there really is NO true competitor out there) and it's worth every penny of not having to throw out and replace inferior technology multiple times an irrigation season.

As soon as I took the first valve out of the box, I could see and feel the quality. The over the top reviews seemed real. Then, when I installed it and turned it on, WOW! the excellent reviews are for sure real!! I immediately bought 2 more TapLinkers, and they all work flawlessly. Finally, after years of a kluged together sprinkler system with various valves that sometimes worked and sometimes didn't, I now have a reliable system that I feel confident about. Next spring, I plan to add several more valves to our system. I've only had them a few months, so I cannot comment on battery life. Yes, these are much more expensive than other brands, but SOOO worth it. With unreliable valves, I was afraid to travel during hot periods. Now, I have confidence that these will work. I'm also psyched about the iPhone app. The app tells me when the valves turn on. So satisfying to hear that gurgle of water on my phone! I also love controlling the valves from my iPhone. Fun party trick. TapLinker is on its way to perfection. One suggestion is that the battery compartment be a little simpler for inserting, removing and replacing batteries. I've taken the valves indoors for the freezing winter and am hoping that the unused batteries don't corrode and mess up these beautiful valves. I didn't want to remove the batteries because life is just too hectic for one more chore. I would have taken out the batteries if I didn't have to hunt down a screwdriver and unscrew each of the four screws, take out the battery, put the screws back in and reverse the whole process again in the spring.

I purchased this system last summer (3 LinkTap units plus 1 Gateway). After using other cumbersome timers that required a lot of button pushing and time-consuming setups / edits / overrides, I decided to spurge on the LinkTap. While I very rarely write product reviews, I felt it may be helpful to others considering options. Below is my experience with LinkTap: 1. Easy setup 2. Robust units that have tight seals and Do Not leak (clearly key) 3. User friendly app - no glitches, full functionality, very intuitive 4. Rain skip feature is nice...it knows your zip code so will skip watering when rain is forecasted (if you choose to select that option) 5. Batteries lasted all season In summary, this is a thoughtful and well-designed product. Customer service is also friendly and responsive. Highly recommended! 5 stars across every category.

Wow The Aussies hit a home run with this sprinkler timer. Over the years, I have tried virtually every make and model of sprinkler timer and they all had faults, some of them with BIG faults, and others with faults that rendered them useless. This timer (I understand it is manufactured in Australia), is perfect in every way. I have had it operating for 4 months now. It is much more expensive than the typical timer manufactured in Asian countries, but it is worth every penny. Extremely well-designed, both the hardware, and the software that controls the system using your internet connection and wi-fi. Furthermore, it is fun to operate. You can turn your sprinkler on /off or change the watering program using your cellphone and it works to a "T". I hardly leave reviews on Amazon because of pure laziness, but with this product I felt obligated to tell prospective buyers how good this product is. It deserves six stars.

The user interface and setup was very easy but after I installed the timer my sprinkler range reduced by about 25%.

NOTE: This listing is for a single tap-timer only. You need a gateway and tap-timer for the system to function. My review is for the entire system, but covers the pros and cons of the add-on tap-linker. Here is why you should buy this system (pros): - Setup instructions are easy to follow and simple - No major tech know-how required. It took me less than 15 minutes to be up and running. - Long Range - Water timers have their own wireless connection which has a much longer range than WiFi (uses the Zigbee standard) so you can put them almost anyplace, even on a large property. This connection is fully secured (encrypted). - Easy to program - If you can use the web or an app on your phone, you can program your timer in about a minute. If you want to do a very detailed program, it'll take you just a bit more time, mostly to make decisions on exactly how you want your watering schedule to work. - Rain skip function works really well and requires no effort to turn on and off/adjust it. Rain skip uses Dark Cloud weather data which I have found to be very reliable (free, no subscription or app required). Unlike other timers that use a soil moisture sensor only and will still water one hour prior to a major rain storm, this system uses forecast and actual rainfall to determine when to skip watering (you set the rainfall thresholds for water skip), reducing over or underwatering and saving you water and money, This is one of the most impressive features for me so far. - Water Timers are remotely, securely, accessible with any internet connection - PC or Mac, iPhone, or Android - any device which can access the web can control the water timer from anywhere you have a connection. (all communications are encrypted from the timer to the gateway and from the gateway to the internet - end to end security!) - No significant water flow or pressure reduction - Solenoid valve is similar to that used in touch faucets and fully opens and shuts with almost no restriction to water flow. - Customer support is absolutely awesome - Before and after my purchase, I reached out to the company in Australia via Facebook messenger to learn more about the product and get my questions answered (no other Amazon reviews, so I was trying to do my research!). Response time is remarkably fast (almost instant), support is from people who actually designed and built the product, and who care about your experience! - App/Website give you lots of data about your watering history - You can see exactly when and how long water was applied to your lawn and gardens from the app - Still waters if your internet is down/unreliable - If you lose your connection to the internet, your system will still water as programmed. - Solenoid valves are very reliable and high quality and use almost no power to open and close - Provides a wireless test feature to ensure that your water timer/tap linker will always receive commands from the Gateway Cons: In order to use a better valve and wireless radio, the tap units are big! You cannot easily install two of them side by side on a hose bib (see photo). So if you, like me, need to run three off of a single tap, you will need to be a bit creative. But trust me, it's worth it! - Installing batteries requires removing and inserting small screws (screwdriver and extra screws provided). This permits a fully sealed, watertight battery compartment. The batteries are supposed to last up to two years, so you won't need to do this step too often. Forget getting anything from Melnor (I had an entire RainCloud system, trashed it after a several week trial period - total junk, website and valves are unreliable (you will have dead plants - the negative reviews are spot on)), Orbit (very meh quality, reduces water flow and pressure, very limited programming options), or even Gardena (WiFi timer not available outside of Europe, very expensive, non-WiFi timers significantly reduce flow and are difficult to use, with limited program options.) I am truly impressed with the entire LinkTap Water Timer system. I have already recommended this to my friends and family and will continue to buy them as our needs grow. From beginning to end, a product that works and does exactly what you want it to. While not the cheapest option out there, it is definitely the best!

Visto che sono Australiani mi aspettavo tempi di consegna lunghissimi....e invece in pochi giorni sono arrivati! Ebbene si, ho usato il plurale perchè prima ho acquistato il kit completo di gateway e poi, entusiasta, ho acquistato il secondo modulo visto che ho due impianti di irrigazione divisi. Gateway collegato al mio router senza il ben minimo problema. Idem con l'elettrovalvole. Il gateway è in casa dove ho problemi con il cellulare perchè ben schermata e con doppi vetri .... ma nessun problema di collegamento con le due elletrovalvole che ho naturalmente collegato ai due rubinetti in giardino a una distanza di 15mt una e 20mt l'altra con uno "spigolo" della casa di mezzo. In effetti l'aggiunta del gateway (che pensavo inutile) stabilizza la connessione sulla distanza. Inoltre vicino al gateway oltre al router ho un controllo remoto della pompa di calore e un WD Cloud (HD in rete che condividiamo tutti) ed ero intimorito che mi potesse creare dei disturbi...niente. Tutto perfetto. L'app ha una grafica essenziale ma c'è proprio tutto quello che serve: controllo manuale, giornaliero, settimanale e mensile. Semplicissima la configurazione. Inoltre, ciliegina sulla torta, ha la possibilità di controllare se nella zona sono previste piogge ed è possibile impostare i mm di pioggia nelle precedenti e successive 24h per bloccare in automatico l'irrigazione. Costa un pò ma mai quanto quelli professionali e fa le stesse cose. Non ha bisogno di collegarsi alla corrente. A dimenticavo! L'app indica anche la carica della batterie, vi avvisa se e quando l'irrigazione è partita ed infine potete aver uno storico dei volumi di acqua utilizzati. CONSIGLIO VIVAMENTE L'ACQUISTO.

The LinkTap works as advertised. I'm using it to keep ferns moist over summer with just a minute of spray every half and hour during daylight. Very easy to add such a regime with the app or via web login. I've found the app quite clear, intuitive and simple to use, it is quite esay to set up a new watering program. The app and the web have almost the same look and functionality. There is even a nice history function so you can check your programming. The rain skip function is a little bit tricky to get right, but it is completely optional to use. Wireless range is quite good, although I found I had to put it on it's edge to get really good reception in the garden. Probably the ideal situation is to have an ethernet cable and powerpoint externally, and place the LinkTap gateway in a waterproof enclosure to really extend range out to 300m. One gateway at the front and back of the house would cover an acre (4000m2) provided the gateways were elevated. Under the roof eve would be ideal. Mine is inside in a window and I get good reception through foliage at 50m or so, but now I know they work, I'll be looking to get better outside coverage by running ethernet. Overall, after a month of use I am very happy with LinkTap, and am making plans to expand with more Tap units to cover my acre of garden.

This is the second one I got. Running two timers with a single gateway. I’ll get to the point: - setup is easy (be patient when linking the timer to the gateway) - the app is full of features and provides all you need to manage your irrigation system or automate your sprinklers. UI could be better though. - API works but tricky to configure. You need to know a bit of coding to configure IFTTT. - Support is superb - fast response and help with whatever you need. After I got help with API, I was able to configure Google Home Assistant and through Webhooks add the timers to my Home Assistant server which allowed me to use Siri (HomeKit) to activate my oscillating sprinklers. - rain skip feature is the best. The timers are not watering my lawn when it was raining in the past or when rain is forecasted in the next 24 hours. The log and push notification tell you if your schedule was skipped or not (rain skip).

After using various Wifi based taps over the years, this product is simply on a different level. Incredibly easy to setup, very far range, almost impossible to fault. A few reasons why it is so good. Firstly if you have a very large garden like me you can create a gateway quasi mesh system to make sure all sprinklers have coverage (not that this seems to be needed, range is far more extensive than even my home security system which by the way can't mesh so already LinkTap is ahead of the game). Secondly the app is super simple to use, has an auto rain system to not turn on, a series of failsafe controls to ensure that even a network outage won't stop the tap from turning on. The third and final great aspect about this system is that it feels and acts as if it was built by professionals for professionals. The devices are sturdy, look like they could withstand heavy weather conditions. Excellent build quality on comparison to other devices out there. Also surprisingly quiet when in operational. All I can say is that I can't believe I didn't discover this item before now. If you are reading this then I urge you to buy this products in favour of any others. Put simply this is the best product out there.
