8Bitdo Retro 18 Mechanical Numpad for Windows & Android, C64 Edition

I don't own the keyboard that goes with it. Did I need this? No. Will I even get much use out of it? Probably not. Was this an impulse purchase? Absolutely. And yet I kinda love it? The keys are tactile, the text is bright and legible, every switch and button feels high quality. The bluetooth, attached dongle, and USB-C port mean it works with basically anything. As a stand alone calculator it's going to be accurate and comfortable if you ever need to do a lot of math for any kind of paperwork, and as a numpad for your PC it's excellent. The only thing that feels like kind of a flaw is the button to open the calculator app on your PC where a numlock button would have made way more sense in my opinion. But there is a hotkey method to activate numlock (hold CAL and press C) and you can rebind the calculator input in your OS to something more useful so even that isn't a hard flaw. All in all, if a chunky retro style calculator sounds like something that would tickle your interests or you just need a solid numpad for your PC or to go with the 8bitdo keyboard I think this thing is excellent. I don't regret buying it.

Love the retro aesthetic, clacky levels are high and super satisfying. Classic key layout as well. Super easy setup and no fuss Bluetooth functionality. The lighting also looks really cool.

So I use a number pad for gaming as I am a south paw. Most number pads are not very good quality or feel good in the hands. This one is Excellent. Nice response time. Occasionally I do run into the pad switching to numlock on during a gaming session which is odd because it is two keys you have to press and hold but it might be the laptop or OS that is doing it.

Fits perfectly with the matching 8Bitdo Keyboard, Love that you can plop it down separate and use it as a standalone old school calculator, I have had it for months and Ive charged it like...Once so super long battery as well its also well built feels way more sturdy than it looks

If you're getting it for bragging rights or showing off the mancave, it's cool. If for functionality, it works as expected except the keys don't allow it for quick data entry without retraining your fingers/brain. Also, there is a magnetic side where it sticks to the c64 keyboard but feels clunky. In retrospect I should have bought the mouse instead for function. But what can I say, it acts as both a functional numpad and stand-alone calculator.

just a super high quality numpad that can turn into a calculator if you need it. no complaints here. It also works with my remapping software so I can use it for hotkeys as well which is super useful. My only complaint is the tactile switches but that's a personal preference so just keep it in mind when looking to buy.

Giving it 5 stars for offering the retro aesthetic (in a few options; I especially like the C64 and NES colorways) with decent quality while not being crazy priced (see the retro typewriter style keyboards selling for $200+). I was even set on buying the NES look because it was the only 1 that offered all of the options (the standalone numpad, the standard keyboard, the oversized buttons, joystick, and then matching mouse) at the time, but they just released the matching C64 colorway of the mouse. I'm not a major number cruncher but I do prefer a dedicated numpad. It being able to be used standalone is neat, but mostly bought it to match the overall package. I'd love a revision that added backlighting, and then a low profile option. Last thing I'd love them to make a more compact USB-C unified receiver.

This and the matching keyboard will make all of your retro dreams come true. Clicky, magnetic, wireless if you want. OH and the numpad converts to a calculator with the small screen included on the face with just a turn of the left side switch. When I say this thing is cool...it's back to the future cool. Get it...you'll love it. But don't forget the keyboard also! Perfect pair. I work from home and use it for 10hrs a day and it's much more fun to use than the alienware keyboard I bought last year. I love it.

Kwaliteit is geweldig alsmede de "retro" beleving. Het enig minpuntje vind ik dat "-" toets en de backspace toets verkeerd om zitten (in vergelijking met een standaard keybord) Door jaren lange automatisme druk ik steeds op backspace als ik "-" bedoel. Dat is erg lastig als b.v. een negatief getal wilt invoeren. Buiten dit puntje had ik zonder meer 5 sterren gegeven.
