VentureBoard Portable Travel Chess Set, Magnetic, 10 Inches, Foldable

I own both the VentureBoard XL and the smaller 6-inch Black & Gray version, and both are excellent travel chess sets with their own advantages. If you have larger or thicker hands, I would recommend the VentureBoard XL. The larger playing surface and pieces are more comfortable to handle, and the recent update to the XL piece design makes it much easier to distinguish the king from the queen during play. The 6-inch Black & Gray version feels slightly more solid and less flimsy when opened. Its compact size makes it ideal for playing in a car, while traveling, or almost anywhere space is limited. Portability is where this model truly shines. The VentureBoard XL offers a more comfortable playing experience but is naturally less portable due to its larger size. My only suggestions for improvement would be: Add felt pads to the bottom of the chess pieces to help prevent scratches on the board. Add a non-slip material or rubber feet to the underside of the board to prevent it from sliding on smooth surfaces. I've owned the 6-inch version for about a month, and I have noticed that the board can develop scratches if the pieces are regularly slid across the playing surface. Overall, both sets are well-designed and highly enjoyable. The 6-inch version is the better choice for maximum portability, while the XL version is the better choice for comfort and ease of play.

My son got this for his birthday. He LOVES chess. He literally said “this is the coolest chess set I’ve ever gotten”. He currently owns 7 of his own chess sets. We gifted it to him for his birthday and it was literally the best present. He wanted a magnetic & packable chess set. This is so perfect in every way. Thank you so much for a superior chess set! My son LOVES it. He also said that he loves that it’s just already set up. :) you don’t have to take time to do that.

The smaller motto was too small and the pieces were too hard to use and potentially lose and also did not always magnetize upright, but we finally got the bigger one and this is we added it and modified it a little bit so that it wouldn’t slide around while playing on solid, smooth surfaces as you can see in the photo i’m not sure why they didn’t think of this but otherwise it’s perfect. The pieces are very nice to handle and it’s very useful and also doesn’t move. If you shake it the smaller one when we shook it it did come a part a little bit or move around inside, I should say.

This is a gift for someone and I checked it out before giving it to them, and one of the magnets came out of its slot upon opening it for the first time. Not great, but otherwise I like the idea of this portable chess board and the person receiving it should enjoy it a lot I think.

This board is great! I did buy the felt stickers for the bottom so the board doesn’t scratch with use. Several other reviews recommended this. The magnetic strength is still solid even with the felt stickers on the bottom of the chess pieces. I really like the size of this larger version, as I think the smaller one would have been too small. I also like that the pieces actually look like chess pieces. I have a bunch of littles running around our house, bumping into tables and such, so it’s really useful to have chess pieces that stay where they are put even when bumped, and can even be rolled up and put away for later if needed! The board is very foundational, and worth the money if you enjoy chess in more mobile and/or chaotic situations.

This is an absolutely fantastic chess board. The ease of being able to just roll it up and take it anywhere has never been better with any other chess board. The size is perfect, a full size chess board that rolls up to about the size of an insulated water bottle. The board and pieces feel very durable and should hold up well. The weight is very manageable and can even be played by holding the board with your hands. While a bit pricey, I do feel the value is there since you are able to pause your game and take it with you anywhere to resume your game.

The board is great for convenience. My son and I play on it a lot and take it to tournaments to quickly run through ideas. The pieces have a beautiful modern shape to them. The magnets are plenty strong. The only thing I beleve it is lacking is a carry case with handle. The only major flaw with the board is that it gets scratched up extremely easy. Even after a handful of games it starts looking bad. I really wish they could solve what seems to be a simple issue.

I randomly came across the Ventureboard portable chess set while scrolling through various social media sites. As I have always been a fan of chess and love to play it, finding a portable chess board has always been on my list as most "portable" ones tend to be stiff rigid boards that are hard to pack with loose pieces. So I figured I would take a gamble on this set as you never know with what you see and find on the internet and I am glad that I did! This set is really amazing and lives up to my expectations and needs! It is easy to just roll the entire board up, even mid game, and not have a piece fall off or move once packed up. It literally takes seconds to just wrap the board up onto itself and you are set to go. I am also glad I went with the XL version, as I have big hands and moving these larger pieces is a lot easier to do then the smaller board. Plus the XL version pieces actually look like chess pieces and not general little pieces with a logo on them. Once rolled up, the XL board is about the size of a Yeti water bottle, so about 11 inches tall and 4 inches wide which means it is easy to throw into a backpack or piece of luggage. Overall, I would say this is a must buy for anyone who is a chess fan and needs a quick and easy board to take with them on the go. I showed the XL board off at my job and already have a few people wanting to pick up one for themselves.

I've put out content on YouTube about getting the perfect chessboard and chess set. I also read a bunch of reviews on this one before getting it. I think the main complaint is overstated, which is scratching the paint. I've had my set for a while, and I haven't had that problem. But there are two features in a travel board that are important when you get serious about chess improvement. This one is fantastic because you never have to lose your position because your train arrives, your plane starts boarding, or the speaker goes on the stage. Fold it up, just like in my video, and come back to it later. I rated it five stars because that's what 99% of people would want. The other feature is something that this doesn't even compete for... which is when you are at the point where you need to analyze every game you play after the match. For that, you'll need an electric chessboard, and that's going to cost you over 2x as much. That's literally the only thing I'd encourage you to think about before buying this. Is chess 'just a game' in your house? Then get it. The more you play, the better you'll get, and this will make you want to play more. Roll it up, throw it in the backpack with your camera, go for a hike, play on a mountain or in a forest. You don't have to worry about forgetting a knight in some couch cushions somewhere. El ajedrez está muy padre. De tamaño ideal para tenerlo en casa. Viene en un empaque cilíndrico y trae un par de reinas extras. Le faltó una bolsita para poner las piezas al terminar de jugar pero como estás se adhieren perfectamente el tablero simplemente se enrolla y listo.
