Roald Dahl's inimitable style and humor shine in this picture book collection of poems about mischievous and mysterious animals. From Stingaling the scorpion to Crocky-Wock the crocodile, Dahl's animals are nothing short of ridiculous. A clever pig with an unmentionable plan to save his own bacon and an anteater with an unusually large appetite are among the characters created by Dahl in these timeless rhymes. This picture book edition is perfect for reading aloud and makes Quentin Blake's celebrated illustrations even more enjoyable. "Will elicit a loud 'Yuck.' In other words, children will love them." -- Children's Book Review Service Review: LOVE IT! - Don't buy this book as a soothing bedtime story- one of my favorites is about a crocodile who likes to eat boys with mustard and girls with caramel. It ends with the parent tucking the kid in bed listening to the crocodile coming up the stairs. A year ago my kids would have flipped out. But, at 6 and 8, they love this stuff now- as long as it isn't as bedtime. The rhymes are hilarious to an adult, especially one raised on Dahl, and delightful to a kid not raised in bubble-wrap. bad kids, bad animals, monsters, good times. Review: great short stories - of course it's a funny book but not for kids, unlike his other works.

Half the poems are about getting eaten.
My favorite poem of all time is "The Pig" but "The Tummy Beast" kind of jumped out at me in this one as I haven't read it until now. This was my favorite author as a kid and it was splendid to remember that while reading this. A fantastic book for any age. Out of the norm and completely mind boggling lol beautifully put though.

Love it! I have read most of this to my 4th graders. It flows so well, and they are great poems. I do have to explain a bit of the British vocabulary. But, other than that, it's easy to read and the kids love it.

Great imagination for kids
I bought this book for my daughter as I had been given it as a child and loved it, she loves it. Well written poetry that flows and is funny, witty and a wee bit on the dark side but nothing small minds can't laugh about.

I was disappointed in this book
I was disappointed in this book. There were so many British expressions that i couldn't translate it properly for reading to my grandchildren.

He is awesome!
The Ant-Eaterと The Tummy Beast。

Short but funny
An awfully fun read for my nine year old son.

Great rhymes & illustrations but relatively overpriced.
The usual Dahl brilliance. One will receive more content for the price with his other books, though. Perhaps, an appropriate price for beasts: €6,66!
