My old MBP seemed to be slowing down so I thought I would upgrade my external drives and cables. I got this along with an NVMe SSD, new Thunderbolt 4-rated cables and it's made a huge difference. This unit does come with a T4-rated cable, but I wanted to make sure all my drives were working at their fastest. I used Black Magic Designs software to test all my cables and drives. Now when I use Photoshop or other data-intensive apps my system doesn't bog down. It's amazing how fast this is when you have all the right components! The first photo is my "old" drive a Samsung T5 SSD, the second photo is my new enclosure with a Samsung 990 EVO. It's almost 5X faster!

The design is very solid, unfortunately, the thermal pad on the top does not make contact with the top sliding lid, causing the NVMe to heat up excessively. All they have to do is make the thermal pad a little thicker or include a metal (copper) heat sink to put on top of the included thermal pad and it would make perfect contact with the metal lid.

This thing is quite fast, about as fast as the internal drive on my new Mac Mini M4 Pro. I have a 2TB SSD in it. When it works it works very well. BUT I've been having reliability problems with it. I've been getting notices from Mac OS that the drive "isn't being ejected properly" which means it keeps shutting off. This has been a real problem in music making, which is it's primary job. This device runs VERY hot, and i think the heat is causing reliability problems.

Comes with the case, cable, and thermal pad x 2. It comes with a rubber screw to hold the NVME down at the other end...took a bit to get that settled in. It also comes with the silicone to place it over the casing to keep it from moving when placed on surface...nice touch. I ended up using both thermal pad because I don't think single pad was enough to touch the case cover to dissipate the heat. Getting acceptable NVME rated speed on it, so I do believe it is providing Thunderbolt 4 level of speed. Using it for the M4 MacMini. No complaints.

Stays cool compared to another brand that I purchased (at a premium price to boot - Sxtechx).... Of course you need to have a quality/fast SSD to obtain the speed, this one is nice and worth it!!!!

The product looks good with good case cover. The speed on thunderbot4 looks good, too. However, it has problem with heat. Compare to the big cases, it gets really hot. I made the drive empty without running any program, it is still very hot. I don't understand why it gets so hot just by plug it. It makes me worried about M.2 drive.

Works as it should and stays pretty cool

This enclosure is great as I was wanting to add more external storage to my laptop via Thunderbolt / USB4 and the speeds are pretty good. I also added some thicker thermal pads to pass the heat from the SSD to the case properly, works nice and cool after that.

連続した読み書きを安定して2000MB/s以上を出すことができる1TBの外付けストレージを目指して、WD_BLACKと組み合わせました。 完成品を購入すると軽く3万を超すようなスペックを、セール価格で計17000円で製作できました。 ちなみに自分のpcは古くて、Thunderbolt3とUSB3.Xしか対応していないためか、付属のUSB4ケーブルは2000MB/sしか出ませんでした… もしかしたら皆さんのレビューにある速度が出なかったり安定しない原因は、付属ケーブルなのかもしれません… 追伸(2026/01/10) 瞬間5000MB/sはまぐれだったようで、該当箇所を削除しました。 後、他のレビューを見ていると熱伝導テープの厚さが足りないという書き込みがあり、信用してエンクロージャーに熱が逃げるようにテープや銅板でかさ増ししてみました。 結果として、エンクロージャーの放熱が間に合わず、熱平衡が起きた時点でガクッと速度が低下しました… エンクロージャーと銅板を貼り付けたSSDとの間に隙間を開けて組み付け、普段は蓋を閉めて使用、数十分読み書きする場合は蓋を外して使用するのが良さそうです。

This is a great wee unit, very solid and VERY fast. Easily running a 3Gbps when paired with a Corsair gen4 2TB stick. It does get noticeably hot though, so situating with some ventilation and not in direct sun is a good idea.

This case was easy to set up and I’m getting great speeds with a Lexar 2TB SSD. I haven’t noticed it getting unusually hot as some other reviews have mentioned. I don’t love the way it looks compared to other enclosures but that’s personal preference and doesn’t affect the way it works at all.
