THE EXACT MEASUREMENTS FOR THIS HOPPER/VENT IS 15 3/4W X 7 3/4H, SO THE ROUGH OPENING REQUIRED TO INSTALL IT IS AROUND 16W X 8H.

Can I install this with the handle outside for a chicken coop?

I dont see why not.....as long as there is air flow.

can this be installed vertically

I installed it inside a shower wall at the top to let natural light in for the application I used it for I used 1x6 and made a box trimmed around window frame with quarter round it worked great for mounting the window I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to mount this window in any direction the only thing about mounting it sideways would be the direction the window opens if you are using for a vent window it should work fine if you have limited space for a window that opens turning it vertical should have no effect on opening the window properly. Hopefully this helps you.

Can this be installed upside down opening to the outside like an awning?

It could be installed upside down to the outside, but then you’d have to go outside to open it. I have mine installed upside down opening inside.
