These are well balanced, gorgeous knives. They are so beautiful that we have them on a magnet strip on the wall. Yes, storing knives on a strip keeps them from getting damaged, but it also allows you to 'showcase' them. In addition to beauty, they are superior slicing tools. The steel is the thinner, harder, Japanese carbon steel. Lightweight, but wickedly sharp.Our old knives were of lesser quality steel, and basically an eyesore. It was also getting harder and harder to keep them sharp (very lesser quality steel) We felt it would be worth the investment of a few hundred dollars to get a set of knives we could keep permanently, with proper sharpening. This particular set was chosen for its Japanese design blades, and the price point was very attractive ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best knives I've bought, perfect for women's small hands *by A***D on May 1, 2014* I absolutely love these knives. So much so that if I'm cooking at my sister's, I bring these with me. She has some good knives too - from the german manufacturers and I also have an old chefs and paring knife from a high-end german brand. Those held up well but since I got these Global knives about a year ago, I haven't touched the other brands. What I have found is the smaller tapered handle fits better in my small hands. It also has a lighter weight that makes chopping for hours bearable. My old knives, the handle was just too big and made my hands ache. I also had to choke up on the handle of those to get a better grip making the balance off. The balance of these is perfect for me. I cook often and use these several times a day and will never go back. These knives are made for Asian cooking with a thinner blade edge, making it sharper but chip a little easier. Anyone who slice a lot would love these knives at this price. I got these knives as community knives for the house.
