This is because electric fires are designed to be used in flues that are blocked off - they convect heat out into the room, rather than pushing significant amount of heat upwards. So the balloon won't recieved significant amounts of heat even when your electric fire is on! You can easily double check this by turning on your fire, and popping your hand over the top of it to double check you're not getting loads of heat going upwards! I tried reflating it and again after a few days it went flat. a good concept but very poor quality. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worth every penny, considering how much it saves in energy usage. *by P***R on 15 December 2025* This is just what I needed, to stop £5 notes floating up my chimney, with all the escaping heat from my radiators. My fireplace throat is very large, and this fitted perfectly. Do please read the instructions carefully, and will realise why you may need to top it up with air from time to time. I also took a wire brush before installation, and removed any sharp bits of brick or cement; this will help avoid any punctures. I am also careful with deflating it before removal — if you just pull at it, there is a chance it will get caught on a sharp edge and get holed. I would say the plastic is not thin like a supermarket bag; it's thicker than that; but I would still generally be careful.
