Review: Prefer over Dremel - I carve rocks using diamond bits (See pic) and I was using a dremel brand tool and extension for the bits. I went through 2 dremels and was on a 3rd and then the extension wore out. I went through 3 extensions actually. The locking mechanism to hold the bits tight wears out and you need to remove the ball and stick a pin in to hold the clasp. NOT WITH THIS SET UP! This is nice! It already has a hole in the tip to stick a small screwdriver in the extension to remove bits, so there is no ball spring to wear out. This is just a tad quieter than my dremels were as well. And for the price, this is a great deal, I purchased another set to have on hand for just in case. When I carve rocks, I am running these things for hours. Every 20 hours or so, I remove the extension inner spline and lightly grease with high temp grease is all I have been doing. Runs great! Speed adjusts fine for my needs. I usually run them for a max of about an hour or so and this is holding up just fine after 4 months. It is so easy to change bits on this one. I use a small screwdriver, they give you a small allen wrench thing, but i the longer handled screwdriver is the ticket for me, slide right into the hole and I can use my mini channel lock wrench to untighten and re tighten the collet on. So I dont use the ones they send with this, I like something a little more beefy to hold. So that is the only knock i see, but the little ones they provide do work, they are just harder to hold. They give you a few bits and stuff with this and for the price this is the set you need. I hang mine up high and do not bend the extension more than you are supposed to. It’s very powerful and gives great results. I bought a cheaper one that busted on the first try and I’m so happy this was my next choice. It’s handled all the fixer-upper challenges I’ve asked of it. The starter kit is a little sparse on the good stuff like saw blades and washers but very helpful. The case is convenient. My only gripe is I have to be intentional about placement to get it to close but the cord and extension tool is so long and useful that it makes up for it. It’s a little bulky but comfortable to hold and I’ve been able to reach all the narrow corners and tight spaces I’ve needed. My next project is to cut away some protruding screw threads and my immediate thought was to reach for the WEN rotary. Anyone know why?** A: If the motor is running, you should be able to feel it. If so, make sdure the collet is tight and not locked. If the motor is not running, check your power source and cord. **Q: In the upper description. the variable is shown as 10,000-32,000. The description by Wen in the lower page states speed is 8,000-30,000. What's correc** A: The label on the tool states - "Model 2307 8,000 - 30,000 RPM 120V ~ 60Hz 1A" **Q: Why did the power putton feel loose then just stopped working and it will not turn on.???** A: I had this same problem and when I called customer service, they sent me a replacement but it did the same thing! I tried finding a replacement switch online but after a few hours I gave up and decided to take the switch cover off to find out why it broke. The circular plastic piece in the center of the switch cover broke on the edge and so it will no longer hold the spring in place that pushes the metal contact bar down to power the motor. So…what I did is I got a little creative and took a plastic molly a little bigger in diameter and I put it over the broken plastic piece. You will need to shave it down if it is too wide to fit inside but once you get it to fit, be sure to place the tiny metal bar back in the center of the switch housing, and test it out to make sure it works! It worked for me :) **Q: How does this compare with harbor freight?** A: My Harbor Freight one broke with-in 3 mos. Just out of warranty. I have had this for about 2 yrs. Use it several times a week making jewelry. Now this is not a commercial rotary tool . This is for home owners to do stuff around the house. Last one I had was an actual dremel. Home owners version. And they are about the same. I love the flexible extension that comes with it it. Now it will get hot if u run it constantly. Like I said this is not a commercial tool. But it's pretty close. And half the cost of the name brand cheapest one eith no attachment. I was leary at first but after using it on many projects, I can say i was wrong.
