PUTTY BUDDIES are the real deal
My youngest son was born without eardrums, and it has been a struggle his entire life to keep water out of his ears. Because without the protection of the eardrums, he gets horrible ear infections whenever the slightest amount gets in there. After years of battling, his new ENT recommended we try the EAR-BAND-IT. It was heaven sent!!! With it came our first pair of PUTTY BUDDIES. At first, we were like, great another set of silicone ear plugs. Then after using them, we came to realize that they are NOT like all of the others. PUTTY BUDDIES are lighter and more malleable. They spread a lot easier than Mac's or any of the other brands on the market (and believe me, we have tried them all!) and provide better protection as well. Not only that, but they float too! Which is actually a feature that we have not had to use yet, because not only does he wear his EAR-BAND-IT, but PUTTY BUDDIES are a little more tacky than other brands, so they stay put very well. One of MY favorite features, as the mom that has to keep up with them, is the little case that comes with them. It makes my life so much easier. My son is now 8 years old, so we have been using PUTTY BUDDIES and the EAR-BAND-IT for over four years. We will use the other brands in a pinch, but we always go back to PUTTY BUDDIES. He recently had one ear drum successfully grafted, so we only use them for his left ear right now, but it didn't stop me from ordering another 10 pack recently.Honestly, I cannot recommend these earplugs enough, and when used (properly) in conjunction with the EAR-BAND-IT, PUTTY BUDDIES will keep your ears water tight. I am so glad that our ENT recommended these to us so many years ago, because without them, water play would be a whole lot more frustrating. My son dives and swims just like every other kiddo, and as long as he has his "ear stuff," we don't worry about any infections.Side note: We always try to get the 10 pack, because it comes with 10 cases as well, while the 3 pack only comes with one case for 6 plugs.

THE BEST EAR PLUGS YOU CAN BUY
I have chronic ear problems and have even paid $120 for one custom ear mold plug that always let a little water in while swimming. The key to using these is make sure your ear is clean and dry. Use a little rubbing alcohol to clean your ear prior to using is you tend to have oily skin. You need to slightly shape them like a cone and roll them around in your fingers to soften. Takes a little practice, but these really are the best ones you can buy. Occasionally with prolonged use one may fall out while swimming, just dry your ear and hands well with your towel and replace. When done swimming I always let the ear plugs dry for 12- 24 hours before closing the lid on the container.

***WARNING*** The worst product I've ever bought from Amazon.
I hate complaining in reviews as, you know, different strokes for different folks. But I had to write a review of these as a warning, as these earplugs are absolutely horrible. I bought them for my two year-old daughter who has tubes in her ears. We tried four sets out of the 10-pack. Two of the sets of earplugs disintegrated as she wore them, one in the bath and one during water playtime at her child care. This left little bits of soft silicone lodged in her ears. On top of that, the bits (big and small) became stuck in her hair. Think of gum getting stuck in your hair. Both times she had to sit through a half-hour of grueling pulling, yanking, and combing to remove the bit from her hair. Of the other two pairs we tried, she poked a hole through one trying to pull it out almost making it fall apart. The fourth pair was finally ok, but I don't see it lasting through another bath. I fear that bits of these are still stuck in her ear canal. Also, our daughter now fears wearing any more ear plugs for bath and play...and I don't blame her.

Works for ears young and old
I'm an adult with swimming-related inner ear issues, and I have a child with the same. We both use the putty buddies. Like any silicone ear plug, they work best when inserted dry. They do tend to move in and out (probably due to the variable pressure within the ears and water pressure on the outside), which can lead to having to frequently re-adjust them (gently pushing with flat surface of thumb). On a few occasions, when removing the ear plugs, some of the silicone remain stuck to the skin of my child's ear, but then I learned that there's a right way to remove them, and a not right way. The right way for us is to gently roll it from the rear of the ear toward the front of the ear. This helps detach it from the skin more gently, reducing the risk of a piece breaking off and remaining in the ear canal.Once I run through these 10 pairs, I'll probably be buying more.

this pediatrician does not recommend
My daughter has chronic ear tubes/perforated ear drums so is forced to wear ear plugs in the pool. We were hopeful about these due to positive Amazon reviews. Unfortunately they break apart into this tacky clay-like material when removed rather than staying in one piece. Both of her ear canals had pieces lodged in them along with bits in her hair. Fortunately I'm a pediatrician and had a fiberoptic ear speculum that I could remove them. Otherwise I would have had to visit an ENT or PCP. We've used the $5 pack of another manufacturer previously and they hold together significantly better than these $20 Putty Buddies..

A Winner!
Don't know why I never bought ear plugs before now. I spent years of having water trapped in my ears and even the water drying drops didn't touch the trapped water. My newest bathing cap came with ear plugs and I did find those helpful, but not super comfortable. I turned to Amazon and found PUTTY BUDDIES Floating Ear Plugs. First off, they do actually float! I tested it in the shallow end of the pool. Second, these provide amazing suction and barrier from water. I don't feel like they will fall out, meaning I can swim without even thinking about them. They are super comfortable. What makes them even better is the array of bright colors they come in. If you are looking for ear plugs, these are the ones you want! Will DEFINITELY buy again, but hopefully that won't be for awhile because I bought the 10-pack.
