Lovely Bible.
Love this Bible! This is a second one like it that I have purchased. My cat knocked over my coffee cup on my other one and soaked the pages. This is a very good looking Bible with leather cover. I bought some of those tabs that tells which book is where and it’s just a lovely thing to behold.

This translation exhibits specific quirks due to its overly rigid literal approach.
I ordered this English Standard Version (ESV) Bible because I enjoy comparing different translations for my research. First, I'll assess its qualitative features, followed by my thoughts on the translation itself. This is a hardcover edition with a sewn binding. The fit and finish of the pages, binding, and cover are very good. However, the font size appears to be on the smaller side, around an eight or nine. If you have trouble reading small print, you might want to consider a different option. The paper quality is reasonable, but it's quite thin and somewhat translucent. The ESV leans heavily on a literal (word-for-word) translation approach, striving for an exact rendering of the original language with minimal consideration for readability or modern idioms. At times, the translators render a text “literally” without recognizing the potential for misunderstanding or ambiguity. While all translations need to be cautious of this, literal ones are particularly susceptible. For instance, Luke 18:34 is translated as, "But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said." The saying itself was not hidden—Jesus just expressed it! The meaning was what was hidden. This translation fails to recognize that "rhēma" here refers to the meaning of the saying, not the saying itself.Another example is 2 Timothy 3:16, where the ESV states, "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness." However, this translation does not properly account for the differences in grammar between Greek and English. A more accurate rendition would be: "Every God-breathed writing is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, to instruct in justice."Overall, while this Bible has some positive qualities, its translation does exhibit specific quirks due to its overly rigid literal approach. If you understand what you are dealing with, this Bible could be a valuable addition to your library.

Lovely Pew Bible
My church doesn’t have pews and no longer uses the ESV but if those things weren’t true, I’d consider asking our leadership to purchase these Bibles. This is a simple, hardcover copy of the ESV text. There are a few footnotes throughout and no cross references making the pages easy to read. I love the gold lettering on the cover and if your church uses the ESV on Sundays, I recommend this pew Bible.

Good translation, convenient size
First, I like this Bible because it contains both the Old and New testaments, and one cannot fully understand God completely without seeing Him in both the Old and New. This ESV (English Standard Version) is a good translation because it is not only quite accurate to original manuscripts and translations but it is also written in common English language so it’s easy to understand. (I also like the NASB 1995 for that similar reason). As for physical readability, this particular hardcover Bible is printed on very thin “Bible” paper, the kind that makes that cool noise when you turn the pages. The pages are 8.5”x5”, and the words are about 2 mm in height. The publisher did a good job printing the pages so the backside doesn’t bleed to the frontside and you can still read the words. The chapters have helpful headings, and there are subheadings, too. This particular Bible is not a “study bible” per se, in other words, there are no commentaries. However, there are some helpful notes or clarifications at the bottom of each page. The entire Bible is only 1” thick, and can be easily tucked into most purses, backpacks, diaper bags, or carried. It’s only 1 lb, 3 oz.Because this is a solid translation, and a good size to haul around, i recommend this ESV Bible.

Hardcover Sewn In - Nice Size For On The Go
This ESV church hardcover blue bible is lighter weight than most bibles with about 1 inch spine to the book. Elegant gold printed font on the front of the book and spine. Easy to carry in purse, backpack, or on the go. Traditional bible paper in which is thin but not so thin unable to read without seeing previous page font/wording. The font is on smaller side in 2 column format. Easy to read and understand for those familiar with ESV.Overall beautifully made ESV bible perfect for everyday use for self or to give as a gift. Great value for really nice bible. Recommend!
