Mister Rogers' Playtime Review: A great alternative to overachieving Pinterest activities - I bought this book mainly out of a love for all things Mister Rogers. After having borrowed this book from the library for many weeks, I'd decided it was time to purchase it for keeps. This book is the antidote to all of the multi-step, special-trip-to-the-craft-store, pinterest-like activities for little ones. Most of the activities can be done with things you have on hand. For example, my 4-year-old, 5-year-old and I made an entire rainy afternoon with the parachute activity in the book. It involved tying a handkerchief to some string and attaching the string to a paper cup. The kids had a blast throwing the cup over our balcony and watching it float to the bottom.. they also put their little toys in there to make it fall faster. Another activity is making a milk shake in a jar, using milk and ice cream and shaking it by hand. These are only two of the activities in this book that are simple, take little to no prep-time, and are hands-on for great fun with little ones. We don't need to go overboard to entertain our children at all times. Sometimes a little dose of simplicity from a man like Mister Rogers can make a big difference! Review: Never out of date! - I am so grateful for the simplicity, kindness, and love that each and every song is made from. They cover a range of feelings and topics and are entertaining and stimulating for a child. Too mugh of what passes for children's education today is ridiculous nonsense specifically designed to get your kids attention, and it does but they aren't taught anything (other than maybe rudeness) in the process (think sponge bob). People may applaud Dora but I think mr. Rogers songs teach something more meaningful.

Sweet and timely
I sure do miss Mr. Rogers. Is there anyone comparable now? Sincere, slow-moving, attentive, and in-tune with the needs of young children? These simple activities may appear retro, but they are true to the needs of young children.
